Job Summary

Designs and/or executes scientific testing strategies and studies. Leads

reports. Serves as Project Scientist, Principal Investigator, Contributing

compliance with protocols and all applicable SOPs. Troubleshoots and
resolves assay or technical issues in the laboratory when scientific
expertise is needed. May introduce new technologies or introduce
improvements in existing technologies. Provides advisory functions to
clients designing a program or experiment, dealing with specific dataset
interpretation, or when appropriate answering questions from regulatory
authorities.



*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Manage activities of the
laboratory to include administrative tasks, meeting finanacial objectives,
meeting study milestones, and training, coordinating activities between the
laboratory and other groups within and external to the pathology
department. Responsible for coordination, planning and scheduling of
laboratory projects. Oversee departmental procedures for sample receipt,
handling, tracking, transfer, shipping, etc. Manage activities of assigned
group(s) to ensure effective performance of function.  Interview and
participate in the selection of qualified exempt- and non-exempt level
departmental personnel.  Recommend, review and approve personnel actions,
including hiring, promotions and raises. Partner with Human Resources in
the handling of disciplinary issues. Monitor performance of direct reports.
Provide regular coaching and counseling. Prepare and deliver salary and
performance reviews.

*Qualifications:*

* Education:* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a biological science
preferred.

* Experience:* 5 years of pathology laboratory experience preferred.
Previous experience supervising and/or managing a laboratory under GLP
regulations is required.

* Certification:* HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) required

*Physical Demands:* Employees must be able to lift, move, manipulate,
and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds; this includes work
materials, equipment, and/or animals. Must be able to perform laboratory
procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long
periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate
instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and
wearing safety euqipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company
standards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close

We have a job opening for an ASCP registered HT or HTL in our active and modern 
Histology Department.  We are connected with one of the largest Multiple 
Myeloma Departments with numerous bone marrows per day as well as biopsies and 
routine surgicals.  We do routine staining and have automated our special 
stains with a few exceptions.  The person applying should be motivated and be 
able to see and pick up on whatever we need done during the day.  The shift 
will be 6AM to 2:30PM daily with one weekend every four to five weeks on call 
for Saturday and RUSH case (these are rare).  We are still growing and looking 
forward to a move soon and expansion. (IHC is done in another area.)

UAMS offers some great benefits and opportunities to go back to school with 
very generous discounts.  Arkansas is great place for outdoor activities and

The Tri-Institutional Laboratory of Comparative Pathology provides research 
pathology support to investigators at Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial 
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and The Rockefeller University, located in New 
York City. This position supports the mission of the Laboratory of Comparative 
Pathology by performing a range of histologic techniques on laboratory animal 
tissues for comparative pathologists, principal investigators and researchers; 
assists investigators in specimen requisition, handling and accessioning, 
following departmental protocols; Histology Services: Performs all steps of 
routine processing, paraffin-embedding (and OCT/plastic as needed) and 
microtomy (paraffin, frozen, plastic) on a variety of animal tissues (including 
eyes, bone, placenta and embryos); performs routine hematoxylin and eosin 
staining, as well as special histochemical staining (manual and automatic), 
cover slipping and immunohistochemistry as needed; performs special histologic 
techniques such as double-staining of embryos with Alcian blue and Alizarin 
red, and whole mount staining (mammary gland and lung); participates in quality 
control program for slides prepared, results entered and results released; 
orders reagent and supplies as needed; troubleshoots, cleans and performs 
routine maintenance of laboratory equipment related to histology and

performs validation studies with introduction of new equipment/assays; performs 
other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
At least three years experience working in a histology laboratory required;

Location: South suburbs of Chicago

 

Pay: $25-27/hr based on experience

 

Employment Type: 6 month contract to hire

 

Shift: 1st shift (4:30 AM - 2:30 PM or 5:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through
Thursday with rotating Saturday schedule)

Part time positions are available as well!!!

 

Requirements: Under the leadership of the Director and section
supervisor, the Histology Technologist receives and properly processes
specimens for the Pathologists in a timely manner, reviews test results,
and participates in Quality Assurance. The histology technician will
also maintain slide files and records, assist the Pathologist and
function in a limited capacity as a cytotechnologist as needed. 

 

Specific required skills: Immunostaining (Ventana Stainer), Cytology,
ASCP certification is a must.
