In an interview with Charlie Rose on PBS, Dr Mahathir asserted that Anwar was an agitator and that he was good at arranging demonstrations. Dr Mahathir claimed: "In 1974 he (Anwar) urged students to demonstrate because it seemed one child died of starvation ¼ " "¼ But he made these allegations, and the students came out and rioted but eventually there was no starvation at all ¼ " He is in fact saying that Anwar was an agitator, a liar and a trouble-maker. If that was the case, why did he arduously woo him and entice him into joining the Barisan Nasional? Why did he parade Anwar as a prized trophy with a lot of pomp in 1982! When did it dawn upon Mahathir that Anwar had lied that a child had died of starvation and had used this lie to agitate the students into rioting? Was it in 1974 or 1999? If it was in 1974, how could he now state in New York that "He was my very good friend, my heir apparent. I had placed a lot of expectations on him ¼ "? If it was in 1999, is he admitting that it took him 25 years to get to the truth of this matter and find out about Anwar?s role in the Baling demonstrations? Has Mahathir inadvertently revealed the obvious that you can be anything and it doesn?t matter as long as you are with the Barisan Nasional? Is he confirming that you can be an agitator, a liar, a trouble-maker or whatever and these traits and characteristics can be tolerated without any problem as long as you are a Barisan man? Secondly, it is a pathological lie for Mahathir to insist that Anwar had withheld his urine test results relating to arsenic poisoning for 14 days. It doesn?t do any credit to his credibility to state this especially when Dr Wan Azizah had clarified that the court was informed the following day on receipt of the urine test results. It is easy to claim anything and it doesn?t take much courage for doing so when your adversary is rendered incapable of a rebuttal. But would Mahathir dare face Anwar and accuse him to his face on a live television debate? If he has any sense of honour, then he should accept this challenge and face Anwar man to man. Let the debate begin and let the people judge. Executive Committee 1 October 1999 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Melanggan ?
