[hlcoders] Has anyone seen Nem (Ryan Gregg)?

2008-03-24 Thread Jed
I know this is rather off topic but I figured some of you guys might
be able to help.

Has anyone had any recent contact with Ryan Gregg aka Nem, author of
the VTF Photoshop Plugin and VTF Edit? Reason for asking, he's sort of
vanished and I'm actually starting to wonder if he's OK.

Last contact I had with him was just after Xmas when he sent me an
updated version of VTFLib, the library we'd been working on and which
lies at the core of all our VTF tools. This was the new release with
7.4 support for TF2.

Last reply I had from him was 28th Dec and I thought we were just
about to release the new tools but then it just went quiet and I
haven't heard from him or had a reply to emails since then. Last post
he made on his forum was 28th Jan and last login, according to the
forums was 2nd March.

Normally I wouldnt be bothered but it was just the suddeness that it
all went quiet. As I said we seemed to be on the verge of a new
release of the VTF tools and he almost always replies to my mails. I
haven't seen him on MSN either.

So just wondering if anyone has had any sort of contact with him,
mainly so I know he hasn't fallen down a hole or something!

Re: [hlcoders] Has anyone seen Nem (Ryan Gregg)?

2008-03-24 Thread Jed
Just noticed on his site, his last post from 21st March

I wrote the linked article so I'm aware of this. I have updated
versions of my tools that support v7.4, but I lost the source code for
the PS VTF Plug-In (I'll have to rewrite part of it) which is why
nothing has been released as of yet.

Guess my worrying was a bit premature then. Just wish he'd answered my mails :D

Sorry folks. False alarm.

Losing source code is hard when it is open source. Why didn't he make
the plugin open source too?
