RE: [hlds] WON Fixed Yet?

Well there goes the torn idea.. Must be a new mapper item that doesn't
work well.. Anyhow.. I have told others with windows to do the
reinstall and they were fixed after that... I just missed your initial
problem...

Some good tips

But, I'm running TFC not CS and I'm on Windows not Linux. =\

So far, a complete server re-boot seemed to really clean out the
resources and reset the server hardware and settings. My TFC server has
been running fine now for over 2 hours. I think that it'll take at
least a few days for it to start acting up again. I'll keep you posted.

[hlds] Experience about server crashing

2001-10-23 Thread Oliver C. Agustin(PhilWeb)

share you some experience about server cs 1.3 and
hlds 1.0.0.8,
I'm running a local lan with at least 20 players
connected to it. Server
specs was: p3 733/128mb rdram 9.1 scsi hdd, intel
pro/100+ nic.

i execute hlds.exe with -nomaster and +sv_lan 1
options, hlds
is stable, but once the server(running win2k svr)
connects to the internet
through dial-up connection, hlds would
unpredictably crash.  Sometimes
the players connected to it would simultaneously
freeze(at least 3 of them).

RE: [hlds] List Archives

2001-10-23 Thread Erik Johnson

[EMAIL PROTECTED] should just go away now. If you are
pointing people to where they can sign for the lists, go to here:

www.valvesoftware.com/serveradmin.htm

[EMAIL PROTECTED] is an alias to me, and it's just for handling
the older subscription requests (like if someone runs one of the older Win32
installers, or picks up an older readme). After the next full client release
[EMAIL PROTECTED] will pretty much go away as a place for people
to subscribe.

Little confusing right now I know. Only point people to
www.valvesoftware.com/serveradmin.htm for subscription information.

yeah, except hound plays TFC not cs. Does this apply to TFC as well?

Wait I reread the problem.. I know how to fix the first person in the server
problem... Its actually the first person to spawn with the bomb problem..

On linux servers, they segment fault.. I *THINK* I have tracked this down
to TORN ran between the time the server was started and the server haulted.
Without torn it doesn't do this...

My best fix is to reinstall. I have a second completely unused copy of a
"MASTER" setup. All I do is backup the log files, and the 5-6 important
files from the mod directory and delete it.. then I copy the "Master"
server into the directory, copy over the 6 files and the logs and then rerun
the server. It works everytime... Its also a good way if you ever need to
quickly build a new server and you can quickly copy the master to a test
setup and try an upgrade on it first to work out the bugs on an empty
server. Then when its time to upgrade all the servers, you know the steps
for that release.

LOL, Ryan and Bryan, thanks for trying to help me. But, neither of those
are issues. Well, the closest possiblity would be the cached DNS, but that
gets blown during the service restart which I did do.

I can ping the WON servers fine. DNS and IP methods. The server will go up
and run with usually no problem there. The problem starts after the first
person joins the server.

Some, have mentioned that it could possibly be some buffer queue that will
end up getting filled up and not cleared out. I restarted my whole server
and the 1 TFC server is back online. I'll see how well it works and how
long. =\

FYI, I've ran other versions of HLDS on the same exact server with the same
exact configs and everything for about 2 years now. These problems just
started about 3 weeks after installing the 4108 patch. =\

I'll see how well it works and how
long. =\

FYI, I've ran other versions of HLDS on the same exact server with the same
exact configs and everything for about 2 years now. These problems just
started about 3 weeks after installing the 4108 patch. =\

Yup, did that a few days ago. I even moved the West servers to the top as

RE: [hlds] WON Fixed Yet?

2001-10-23 Thread Bryan Socha

make sure your hosts files does not have static ip entries for the won
servers back from when there was a complete won outage..

look in your woncomm.lst file and try to ping the domain names for the auth
servers.. make sure you can reach them from...

I know this isn't the case since the email server uses the same dns server
and I haven't had any problems with that. It was a good idea though. In
fact, for safe measure, I restarted the dns server and it had no effect on
my HLDS servers. =\

Re: [hlds] adjusting LAN ping...

Damn!
I use the same connection for my clan server as I do
for my home PC. Enemies aren't going to like me
having a 10 ping.
We'll just have to play on a neutral server, or
theirs.

add "logsdir server2" in server.cfg for second server

That will place logs in
"c:\hlserver\cstrike\server2\*.log"

Can only change subdirectory they are saved in
relative to cstrike dir.

Whatever the cause, I certainly hope all these HLDS issues get worked
out soon.
It would be a shame to see HL lose popularity after going strong for so

Heh, those chokes may have been while I was working on the server in
search
of what is wrong. So, it could have been a locked down firewall or I
took
the DNS or email server temporarily offline. The only thing running on
the
server with any problems is HLDS.

In fact, here's a strange one. Ping the server and get ~50ms. Go into
GameSpy and refresh, it pings ~50ms. Go in game and sometimes have a
latency of ~2000-3000. But, external pings and such are still at 50ms.

Needless to say, I'll probably re-install the entire HLDS (full install
again) to see if I still have the same problems. I doubt it will help,
but,
it's worth a try anyway.
