It is best to restart, however typically just restarting the game (and
not steam) is enough.

Client get a game update when they run the game. Half-Life 2 has
already gone gold (get with the times!)
When Half-Life 2 is release, there'll most likely be an update to steam,
to allow you access to Half-Life 2, as well as there being a game update
which you'll get when you run it (or when steam decides to automagically
aquire it)

Like a lot of mod developers, they seem to like the element of

not keeping everyone up to date on the exact process of everything
doesn't mean their support system sucks, it just means they'd rather
work on it and get it done then waste time reporting stuff to people.

[hlds] What about the still present Server FPS dropping issue?

2004-11-03 Thread Lord Devil
[ Converted text/html to text/plain ]

Hello!

In the BETA a few people (me included) reported a problem that the Server FPS
is dropping if the server runs for a longer time. I reported this problem to
Quicksilver (the Steam Forum Super Moderator) and he could also reproduce this
problem and said he would forward it to VALVe.

My question now is, is the problem still known and being worked on, as it is
really a pain to restart the Source Server every day to avoid the FPS dropping
issue.

For everyone who doesnt know what I mean: If you run the srcds server, the FPS
starts at about 256 FPS. Then if people play some hours on the server and
everyone leaves, the next time a player joins the server, the FPS suddenly
drops by 50% (128 FPS). If you let the server run even longer the next time it
will drop to 64 (then you already notice client side jerkyness)...! The only
way to get the Server FPS back to 256 is if you restart it.

We already reproduced it with standard config, console and VGUI mode, its
always the same issue (as far as I remember, all machines who reported this
issue were Windows 2003 Server Edition)

Thanks in advance,

LD

Re: [hlds] CS:S Nov. 2nd Update attempted to create directory with invalid name

2004-11-03 Thread List Keeper
Something sure did change and it wasn't of my doing.

HLDSUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . -username
username -password password -remember_password -retry
@echo off
pause

This is in the same folder as srcds.exe.

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Logging in as 'username'
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 16
Failed to create directory .\reslists\counter-strike: source, Win32 Error 267 "The
directory name is invalid."
Press any key to continue . . .

The colon in the folder name. Not good.

No changes were made to Counter-Strike: Source since the Oct 25th
release. Counter-Strike: Source 's base cache version is at 16. Note
that the game name must be "Counter-Strike Source" (note the
