You do that, and hldsupdatetool craps out when it can't overwrite the file. Making a backup works, sure, but it's not an essential file to begin with, so there's not much reason in overwriting the thing. -- ironchef http://www.dexworld.org/ ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Not an option for a business. Best way to go is to have a script to do the steam updates that will backup and restore the motd.txt, etc. Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of knoid Sent: Monday, December 13, 2004 12:26 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [hlds] Re: Two more questions I had... I haven't had any motd's overwritten during source server updates. RE: [hlds] WinSrc/HLDS Error Pop-up
Definitely agreed. This is very annoying and would allow me to stop reg-hacking to turn defaultreply on as well as using firedaemon to take care of the whole thing. > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of List Keeper > Sent: Sunday, December 12, 2004 4:22 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [hlds] WinSrc/HLDS Error Pop-up > > This would be fantastico if they did this. Re: [hlds] WinSrc/HLDS Error Pop-up
This would be fantastico if they did this. Would be especially spiffy too if they could add a startup switch that automatically uploads the memory dumps to Valve so they can examine them. - Original Message - From: "Draco Dragonsfire" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, December 11, 2004 04:13 PM Subject: [hlds] WinSrc/HLDS Error Pop-up > Dear Valve, > > Stop popping up "OK" dialog boxes for errors on Win32 servers. [hlds] Maps becoming corrupt on dedicated server
Is anyone experiencing corrupt maps on their server? The server will run fine for a day or so and then we'll come across another one corrupt. All players are kicked of course with the error that their maps differs from the server. I then have to run my Hldsupdatetool batch file that includes -verify_all. During this it sometimes finds more than one corrupt map. Once this is done I restart the CS:S server and all is fine for awhile longer. Server specs.. (2) AMD Opteron 246 CPUs (2.0ghz, 1mb L2 cache) Tyan Thunder K8W motherboard (model S2885) 2048mb PC3200 ECC/Registered RAM (Corsair XMS, 4x 512mb DIMMs) (2) Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM 74gb SATA drives (mirrored in RAID 1) PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 510 ATX power supply with EPS12V support and active PFC Antec SX1000 series SOHO file server case Generic CDROM, PCI video, etc. Full details and pics (http://www.clannumbnutz.com/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=10&mode=&order=0&thold=0) I'm at a loss for where to begin. We have and do ran servers on this same machine (colocation) for the following SoF2, BF Vietnam, BF Desert Combat. These problems only seem to be happening with CS:S though. ...I have yet to find a pattern. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
