[hlds] Player name bug still?

2005-04-15 Thread Graham Robinson
I've had a look around the past few emails and can't seem to find if
this has been mentioned.

I notice that a few days back the name bug was fixed meaning player
names on the score board were correct. Am I right in stating that the
bug is still there on the map overview screen.

When I die I tend to go to map overview and I still see myself running
around the map (it's someone else, it just happens to say my name
under the circle) but if I first person cycle to them their name is
correct at the bottom of the screen but still not on the map.

Re: [hlds] Source Dedicated server update

2005-04-15 Thread Steve!
Valve are one of the few companies that DO try, I'm sitting here with
another Vivendi marketted title, and getting nothing helpful back in the way
of customer support.
Yet week after week, I see Valve fixing anything that had gone unnoticed AND
adding new features and games. Now look at the bugs in the other programs
people have running, many of the bugs in Windows have been in there since
the beginning, and that's an OS! (and probably the reason you're running
Debian, Mikee), at least Valve are bothered and are trying. Most companies
would just blame the end user, even when knowing full well it's their side
and that thousands are having the same problems.
Perhaps more communication from Valve as to what they are working on, and
perhaps (re: willy nilly patching) some way that server ops can opt in to
test patches for Valve would be a good idea? Maybe a variable that is set,
or a character prefixing usernames so that Valve and identify a server that
has 'opted' in to test updates?
Yes very annoying to find out all your servers have crashed, it shouldn't
have happened, and yes Valve were to blame, but they do try, and am sure the
majority of us appreciate this.
Just thought I'd add My few words in support of Alfred and all those at
Valve.
Steve!

That's your loss. They are doing a rather good job in my eyes by
releasing patches fairly quickly for the more serious of bugs.
I certainly would not consider having logaddress_add in autoexec.cfg part
of simple basic testing.
I'm sorry you have so much trouble with it, but if you do not like it,
then please just find a new game.

[hlds] RE: Player name bug still?

2005-04-15 Thread Reeves, Brian

I have still seen this issue as well. It is not a prominent as it was
before the fix, but it is still there.

Also, I have noticed that the player's sprays last through the round
switching, whereas they would reset at the end of each round.

It through me off at first when I came barreling down a corridor and
there were three sprays on the wall already, when I knew for sure that
nobody had been there yet.

Well the sprays thing was covered in an update. Have a look through

Re: [hlds] Source Dedicated server update

2005-04-15 Thread Mikee
I wrote my comments because I do care about this game, and Valve in
particular. If I didn't care, I would not have bothered to complain. I
would have just blown them off, like a lot of players and server admins have
already done. The forums are filled with frustration and contempt, and
Valve should hear that it has reached this level of disatisfaction.
There are those of you on this list that believe in sugar coating a
Pollyanna type of comment to Alfred as the most productive type of
message. I disagree with that strategy once things reach a certain level of
frustration. I have also thanked and praised Valve (here an in the Steam
Forums) when they have done good things for this HL2-DM game.
I happen to believe that a small company like Valve needs to hear point
blank when their actions (or inactions) are reaching such a significant
level of dissatisfaction, so they can make the corrections. I do not expect
anyone on this list playing CS to have much of anything to bitch about,
since that is where they have spent all of their attention. My comments are
not directed at any CS server admins, and because CS server admins players
are relatively happy with Valve, does not mean that the rest of us feel the
same way.
It has been nearly 6 months since HL2-DM came out. There have been many
problems and bugs, but no fixes other than the two blatant myg0t server
crashing model and te exploits which were mainly done for CS, and only
later extended to HL2-DM. It is because many of us have always held Valve
in higher regard than most gaming companies that we are expressing our
frustration, and how it affects our servers, and pointing to dwindling
numbers.
In this last case, having a log address following the log on is an EXTREMELY
common configuration, so for them to have missed that resulting in all of
the crashed servers is shocking, and could have been easily preventable.
Some basic communication and approximate timelines for patches would
alleviate the growing hostility, and waning player numbers. Issuing test
patches to a trusted group of server admins before a general release would
be an excellent idea, or if they want to maintain tighter control, we could
give them a copy of all of the config and setup files that we are running.

We will look into this (it's a different subsystem to the scoreboard

I see that some maps get files created in maps/soundcache - does that
need to go in the website download too? I tried to browse the PAF site here:

http://css.punkassfraggers.com/maps/

To see how you set this up, but I was rederected so I think that directory
and got redirected so I think you have a script blocking directory
listings :)

But anyways, in case anyone else is interested in this feature, i found
a good forum article that explains how to set it up:

I think that I will be able to figure it all out from that article, thanks.

Also on that web-page it does not mention needing to create a .res file
for the other files associated with some maps.

I have it set up here:

http://www.unholynetwork.com/hlmaps/

(I will block that directory from a listing when I have this working!)

Those maps are for hl2CTF mod - but the http download is not working, I
don't see a different download dialog with my custom graphics when I
switch to a map I do not have installed.

Does anyone know if sv_downloadurl works for hl2ctf?
Can anyone see if I have staged the files correctly?
I see the CVAR sv_downloadurl is present and has the correct value from
using the RCON console.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

I have created a config to automatically start srctv and begin recording.

However, when I execute it, it starts the srctv but does not connect to the
server. Any ideas?

17:22:04 --- SrcTV Status ---

 Online 14:36:16, FPS 0.0, Version 2349 (Win32)

  Local IP 69.9.188.81:27021, KB/sec In 0.0, Out 0.0

  Local Slots 0, Spectators 0, Proxies 0

  Not connected.

I also notice that there is no fps coming from it.

Contents of config.passwords asterisked out. It also does not take the port
command at all, it keeps starting it on whatever port past 27020 is free
(020 is occupied on our box).

// This config is written so as to start up the srctv when needed, it will
automatically begin recording...

rcon_password *

tv_enable 1

tv_name Source Terror Tv

tv_delay 120

tv_dispatchmode 1

tv_autorecord 1

tv_debug 1

tv_maxclients 10

tv_maxrate 3500

tv_overrideroot 0

tv_password *

tv_port 27025

connect 69.9.188.81:27016; password ***

With this config it starts up fine, but it does not connect. If anyone has
any suggestions or ideas please feel free to reply. Thanks in advance.
