[hlds] RANT: VAC2 servers....

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I got curious last night and decided I wanted to find out what servers are
part of the esteemed beta test for VAC2.

What I have found left me speechless for a few hours to say the least..

Only one set of servers has vac2 that I can see. These servers are all
identified with The-Space as the first part of their title.

3 of them to be exact.

66.93.87.42:27015

66.93.87.41:27015

66.81.7.226:27015

And NONE of them are central or east. Get this ALL west.

I did a trace. Apparently these are all speakeasy.net ips. Now I know that
Seattle is where Valve headquarters are/is (The ips traced to seattle
Washington speakeasy.net), however to my knowledge they are not The-Space.
One can only wonder who this server owner sucked off to get to be part of
this exclusive beta test. Bet odds its someone who curries favor with the
vac2 developers. I mean how does one get to say exclusively.I run the only
anticheat for this game, no other server in the world can say that. Is that
fair to the community in general? Not in my opinion.

They said it started logging already. But logging only 3 servers out of how
many? I bet the logs are about 100k in size. Couldn't be any larger, those
servers don't get much traffic. I know I've been watching them since I
discovered there existence.

And one can only wonder how many servers will crash with vac2 because of the
sole server group being used as a test pool. I can only wonder at the
incompetence of this.

Is Valve prepared for catastrophe on live day? You only have to do the
math to draw the same conclusion I did. 1,000s of servers + 1,000s of server
configurations x 5 or 6 (types of operating systems) = good odds live day
will be a disaster testing on only one server pool with the same exact
server configuration.

Last time I checked a beta test was to include more then just one group.
Its distributed to multiple platforms to test various server configurations.
This is done to ensure that MOST of the bugs are worked out and the software
is stable across multiple platforms. I think back to the days of steam
beta.gee that wasn't an exclusive beta test. Not one SOLE group, but
multiple groups.

Last time I checked tests were not done on one small group out of 1,000s of
server operators out there.

Think we may shutdown our 2.0 servers and replace them with BattleField2
servers come june. More money to be made in a game that doesn't
discriminate against its customers. Their anticheat is tested across a broad
number of platforms before being rolled out not just one groups.

To you flamers that just want to say go play that other game then. I will.

RE: [hlds] RANT: VAC2 servers....

2005-04-26 Thread Alexander Kobbevik
I thought the beta testing was collecting data from many many
servers(clients?), but when the server shows up as VAC secure; it will have
VAC acctivated and ready to ban?

Sounded like that to me atleast...
As usual I might be wrong.

Maybe those servers you found was the first three to go into the next stage
of the testing, as Alfred informed about?

2005-04-26 Thread Graham Robinson
Moan Moan Moan.

Seeing as the options to be VAC secure haven't been released and
Alfred has already commented on list and on forum about it being a
glitch that it showed as secure, and steambans said that VAC is being
tested on servers that don't actually show as secure... maybe you
should wait a little longer before complaining.

Last time I checked a beta test was to include more then just one group.

create a bot2.cfg file in notepad and paste this info into it.

//General CS:Source BOT Config v5
echo Loading CS:Source Bot Configuration Settings...

//Control how bots talk. Allowed values: 'off', 'radio', 'minimal', or
'normal'.

//Add bot(s) to a specific team. any/CT/T or Adds a bot to whichever team

//Bots with high co-op may automatically follow a nearby human player. 0/1

where N is bot_quota.
bot_quota_mode fill

//Bots will automatically leave to make room for human players. 0/1
bot_auto_vacate 1

//Set to min # of bots allowed on server bot_quota 8

this will add 8 bots on hard setting. it will keep 8 bots in your server
until a player connects. if 1 human connects it will drop 1 bot. and so on
and so forth.

you can also make a bot1.cfg just paste in the above info and change the
difficulty level.
or even a bot3.cfg with the difficulty set to 3.
i also use a nobot.cfg with this in it.

//General CS:Source NOBOT Config v5
echo Loading CS:Source NOBot Configuration Settings...
bot_quota 0

better yet i have them zipped and ready for download

http://www.clangenx.com/botconfigs.zip

unzip these and put them in your cfg folder then from rcon type rcon exec
bot2.cfg or whatever config you want.
if you want the bots in at startup add
exec bot2.cfg
to your server.cfg file.
to remove the bots
rcon exec nobot.cfg
works very well.

Alpha is in-house testing, beta is public testing. Don't you think
it's better to test on a small amount of servers (since beta is
usually limited to a certain amount of testers) and work out any kinks
VAC2 may have? Once the developers feel the system is ready, they will
release it and hopefully it will catch all the bad players out there
and teach em right from wrong.

We have released an update to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and the Source
engine. Run hldsupdatetool to get this update.
The update includes a new map for HL2DM, dm_runoff and moves the default
Steam port to 27009 (from 27030). You will also see a new message in the
console on startup once you get this update:
Connection to Steam servers successful.
If you see:
Could not establish connection to Steam servers.
then make sure that the server can send outbound (and receive inbound)
UDP packets on the Steam port.
- Alfred
What exactly is the steam port for? If I run multiple servers on one box do
I need to assign different steam ports to each one?

All servers are currently running a test of the VAC2 code (in particular

where a small number of users (a few percent) are not able to log into

something! After 3 months, no bug fixes...the HL2 community could care
less
about new maps, most of which are not worth running anyway. Many of us
are
just about done running servers for this screwed up game. Keep your maps.

What a wasteand what a shame to see this so poorly handled by Valve.
Valve should work for the government.

To the critics. This was Alfreds reply when written offlist.

These are the only beta test servers for vac2. All under the thumb of one
person (hope hes not a cheat designer). Like I stated in the first posting,
Valve has played the you don't count card again.

They started this testing three weeks ago now, and these are STILL the only
servers in their test pool. This is a colossal screw up.

Re: [SPAM] Re: [hlds] Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Update

2005-04-26 Thread Steve Tilson
There are other games with dedicated servers out there.
For instance, you should try FarCry out.
No update headaches there. Why there are no updates at all! Never will be!
And you can run what, one FC server per host without smashing the CPU?
lol
As always, those who can write a better game can complain but we all
prefer you deliver the great game to end all games over the usless flames.
Also, I'm not sure this was a mandatory update.
Reading the news can help the admin decide whether or not to patch.

[hlds] Double entries in hlsw

2005-04-26 Thread Ook
I have the following in autoexec.cfg
log oN
logaddress_add 10.0.0.12 27500
logaddress_add 10.0.0.12 7130
logaddress_add 10.0.0.2 7130
The first logaddress_add is for hlstats on 10.0.0.12
The second is for hlsw on 10.0.0.12.
Both of these run 24/7.
The third is for when I want to run hlsw on 10.0.0.2, which I do from time
to time.
I get double entries in the console of hlsw on 10.0.0.12. Every event is
repeated twice.
Now it gets weird. If I fire up hlsw on 10.0.0.2, the double entries at
10.0.0.12 go away. If I terminate hlsw on 10.0.0.2, the double entries don't
come back.
My question (if I haven't confused things too badly) is how to stop the
initial double entries on 10.0.0.12

Re: [SPAM] [hlds] Server Video Card

2005-04-26 Thread Steve Tilson
Go to http://www.noclans.com/downloads.htm and download srcdsfpsboost.zip
Try it instead of the other FPS Unlocking techniques.
You should now see ~500 FPS in your CSS consoles.
No tick rate adjustment needed for these FPS rates.
Adjust your tick rates the way you wish but do so carefully.
I leave mine at the default and the smallish servers (10 - 16 slots) I
run do perfectly fine on the platform where they are running.
Disclaimer: Your results may vary
