[hlds] This is not the steampowered.com forums
Once again this mailing list has turned into a copy of the steampowered forums. The reason we get good information from valve in this list is because they don't have to put up with the piddly crap. but lately that is all I see (crap) talk Could people who post remember that this is a list used for information that is helpful to other admins, not general smack talk. Every post you make I receive as an e-mail, If you don't' feel like you would e-mail thousands of people with small talk, then don't hit the send button. Sorry if this sounds like a flame, its not really... I just look forward to good information coming into my in-box from this list, and lately that has not been happening! save the small talk about general BS for the steamforums... Re: [hlds] srcds.exe - Application Error
oh oh oh, I missed a lot of this conversationbutbots and custom maps are BAD NEWS. I have run a lot of custom maps for years, and I can also attest that about 1/3 to 1/2 or so my my custom maps (which is about 300-600 maps) will crash with bots. I used botmans bots, which I like, but just had too many crashing problems. I've use rho-bots and the bots on OZ, same problems. Crash city. What I finally had to do was to load up my mapcycle with several hundred maps and run the server. Each time the server crashed, I removed that map from the mapcycle. Eventually I had a set of maps that were 100% stable. No more crashes. Please not that this occured with HL1, not srcds, but I would not be surprised to find that Source has the same problem :( - Original Message - From: "Matthew Welch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2005 5:09 PM Subject: Re: [hlds] srcds.exe - Application Error > Are you running custom maps? Re: [hlds] Does any one know?
yeah, that's true. I wonder if the ranges between armour and no armour overlap at all. There are so many things that would be nice to know about the game, but for whatever reasons, perhap some valid and some not, they'll probably never be revealed to us. Helmet and no helmet being the next obvious one to go to from here... It obviously helps since sometimes one headshot is enough and other times you can hit them 2 or more times in the head before they die. Always bugs me when the round's over and I see more than one headshot into the same person, freakin' helmet! hehe On 6/1/05, Mikee <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > True, but it will get you into the ballpark, and there is no other way > without seeing the encrypted code, which should never happen. -- Clayton Macleod ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

[hlds] Server broadcast
Ok, so I've been on/off this list for a really long time, and I figured it was time that I send out my own question (I just readded myself to the list, so if this question has been posed recently/in the past with an answer, I apologize). I've decided to start running a server again, and while the setup was painless, I simply cannot get my server to auth to Steam, meaning it will not broadcast/show up on the server list (but manually adding the IP works, and it allows connections). Is there something I've missed in the course of things that simply negates the auth process, or is there something else going on that I've missed? There are no firewall issues, no port blocks, nothing, that should cause this to happen, as far as I am aware, so I'm at a loss. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

In this case we got rid of the the weapon autoswitch in HL2-DM, where when you walk over a weapon you don't have you were previously forced to switch to that new weapon...even in the middle of a fight. Did Valve give a shit about fixing this? Nope. So a few of us figured out that if you manually extract the weapon script txt files from the SP installation, and edit them, then replace those respective .ctx /scripts/ folder weapon files, you can make server side mods of weapons. You can read about the post here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=295350 How long would this have taken Valve to edit their precious encrypted .ctx weapon files, and fix this? It took us a few minutes once we figured out how to sidestep their bullshit no support for the last 5 months. Valve's horrible support for HL2-DM (as I have said numerous times on this email list) is the main reason that I'm closing 2 of my 3 HL2-DM servers in 2 weeks (as others have already done), and will never buy another bullshit Valve product. Re: [hlds] Does any one know? re:how armor works
I apologize for speaking so strongly against Valve like I just did, but it is a reflection of how angry the community is towards Valve who love playing HL2-DM. The Steam Forums are filled with disgusted players and server admins, many of which have left the game and won't return. Actual server and player numbers have clearly dropped over time because of this. Valve NEVER gives us any feedback or progress about this RETAIL PURCHASED LEVEL, or even let us know they give two shits, either here or in the Steam Forums. No patches in over 5 months...that is truly disgusting for a product that they openly promote on their Steam Product Sales webpage. (Not to mention DOD has been coming soon for about 9 months). http://www.steampowered.com/?area=product_packageoffers Anyway, this autoswitch fix at least helps those of you who still care about this game. - Original Message - From: "Ned Haskin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2005 2:51 PM Subject: Re: [hlds] Does any one know? re:how armor works Great link , thanks Mikee going to stop the auto switching asap.
