Re: [hlds] New TF2 Crash

While a proper server fix is always desirable, could this sort of
emergency-prevent-use-of-variable fix not be achieved using VAC? And if
not, is it something VAC can be altered to support? I know the main aim of
VAC is detecting client-side cheats, but still...

We're working on fixing these issues, but I haven't been able to
reproduce the rcon crash. Are the servers that are crashing running any

It looks like the RCon bad password crash is back following this last
update. I was able to reproduce it by sending a command to the server
via my ingame console and using the wrong password. Once the server
kicked/banned me, it crashed. Hopefully, Valve can include the
regression fix with the _resetgamestats exploit.

I'm also unable to reproduce this - only thing I noted was banning ip
for hacking attempts is spammed to the console every time someone tries
after they've been banned rendering it unreadable.

You can use Microsoft's debugging tools for Windows...these are essentially
minidump files. You can get more info about debugging tools here:

Re: [hlds] RCon Bad Password Exploit/Crash

2008-08-04 Thread Keeper
You need both a debugging tool like Visual Studio.

But you also need that build's program database file (.pdb). This info is
left out of the distributed build ( well for windows anyway ). So without
these pdb files you will just get a bunch of assembly language in the
debugging tool.

Best thing to do as a server operator is when you see a crash like this,
disable all addons and see if you can reproduce the problem. If you can,
then get the mdmp files to VALVe. If you can't, then start adding the
addons back one by one until it happens. Then get with that addon publisher
to see if they can get it fixed. With SourceMod, those guys are usually on
top of things and get the fixes out quickly.
