Sounds like a great idea to me!
See if you can get some attention over on fpsbanana.
Also agree with Arg! it would be great from a mappers perspective to be
automated and easy as well.

Re: [hlds] Question for Map Makers

2009-06-15 Thread Arg!
I think if there was a web based interface for booking time and uploading
maps etc it would be a great idea.

If its not all automated though it will be a nightmare to run.

[hlds] Question for Map Makers

2009-06-15 Thread CLAN RCR
So, I'm going to avoid turning this into an advertising message and dispense
with the details.. But I wanted to ask a quick question.

Basically, I have an extra 32 slot server that is doing jack right now, and
I was thinking about maybe turning it into a dedicated map development
server. It's primary purpose would be for map makers to have a mainstream
pub server to test their maps on and such. It would be donation-based and
geared towards helping map makers debug, and at the same time grow the
overall popularity on their map. Maybe even have a few lulz?

I was just wondering about what you fellow admins thought about the validity
of such an endeavor, or maybe if you knew anyone that would be willing to
take advantage of such a resource.

Anyway, like I said this isn't meant to be an advertisement of any type but
I would appreciate some feedback regarding such an idea, or maybe just pass
my address along to anyone you think might be interested.

As always, thanks for your feedback.

Re: [hlds] [TF2] - Map Change not executing server.cfg

2009-06-15 Thread gameadmin
Just because he refuses to assume you're _NOT_ an idiot doesn't mean he's
assuming you are, just that he's reserving judgement... though your attitude
is rapidly removing doubt.

I've got an echo line in the top of each of my .cfg files, to make it easier
when looking over the logs to see the flow of .cfg execution... otherwise,
on windows anyway, I'd start up process monitor and check what files are
accessed on mapchange. For what it's worth, not getting that issue here on
Linux or windows.

What is your server.cfg?
Does it exec the other cfg file? Because that would make the name

Does this happen on standard map configs? Could there be something in the
CEVO config that is halting execution on map change for some reason? You
say it happens 9 out of 10 times, how do you know?

Are you guys seeing these differences because you are using the no

Re: [hlds] [TF2] - Map Change not executing server.cfg

2009-06-15 Thread turb0z
I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't being clear enough with my e-mail.

I'm not interested in hearing about possible work-arounds. I know how the
map-specific config files work and I know a work-around will help bandaid
the situation.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else can confirm this happening? The bottom
line is something broke and it's not working the way it used to. Whether
this be intentional or not, I'd like to know if anyone else is seeing this.
Perhaps valve will then see the multiple "oh yeah, confirmed this is
happening on my dedicated servers" and then we can just hope for a fix from
Valve.

If no one else can confirm this happening on their servers, then it's an
issue with mine where it's not doing what is expected. At that time I'll
either need to find a workaround or a fix. Can anyone else confirm this
happening on their servers?

Re: [hlds] [TF2] - Map Change not executing server.cfg

2009-06-15 Thread turb0z
Yeah, AutoExec is not a viable solution. I would rather see Valve identify
this as something that's broken then try a work around.

Even still, if Valve changed something, then I just need to know what we
need to do to see the same behavior we did before the last update.

I have server.cfg being executed on server launch and, up until the last
update, map changes exec'd server.cfg so that the hostname would revert back
if we used some sort of league config.  It's not game breaking by any means;
it's just an annoyance I'd rather not deal with since it's never really
acted like this with any valve-based HLDS game I've managed.

Well what you can also do is for each map is make a .cfg with a
different hostname that is fool proof it just sucks if you have many
maps
