Additionally, backup databases too.
Made a update to a server with css rank for a little time ago, and
suddenly, 13.000 ranks disappeard...

Kinda awkward telling a community that :/

For some reason my motd keeps getting cached ingame. I have changed it yet
it loads the cached version in the browser. There's obviously no F5 ingame
and I want clients to see the new version. The URL shows correctly out of
game. Is this some setting in WebKit?

Yep fortunately i do have a fairly recent back up of it. Its not the first
time its happened. Been caught out a few times over the years especially
with TF2 Server updates so i tend to back up important configs quite often
just in case. ;)

Will try deleting the Steam Binaries and re-update and see what happens.

Cheers.

Downloading new steam binaries made no difference. Server still unable to
load Steam Libraries and running in LAN Mode only.

Re: [hlds] Backups: uncommon practice on HLDS (? as if)

2013-01-21 Thread Noel
You can take it a step further and use an additional cronjob to transfer
your backed-up directories via SFTP. If you don't maintain non-game-server
resources on the web that you can administer (or have someone else
administer) to grant the necessary access, you could probably get away with
using Amazon's AWS free tier instances and a very small amount of EBS
storage.

[hlds] Backups: uncommon practice on HLDS (? as if)

Not really that uncommon. Most of us have learned "the hard way". Been doing
HLDS in one form or another since 1999, and backups have save my butt more
times than I can remember, much less count.

I schedule/cron a script to 7-zip my game server folders - at least once a
week. Getting that backup copy OFF the server - to another "safe" location
(for something like a hardware failure) is bit harder (depending on resources
available, etc.).

But, my sympathies either way.
