all I got was a message about what the password is.

rcon sv_password "1"

[hlds] It's here guys,

[hlds] Custom map and Mani mod not working after update and Fix.

2005-09-26 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
Someone just posted they get garbage in the console.
here is how I solved a simliar issue, but not sure if
it's the same as the other guy.

I have ran into a problem with 1 custom map that I
wrote.

whenever I load that map, all I see is garbage in the
console screen. but restart with a default valve map,
then it's clean.

This is only a problem with Mani mod(rev. za) and
weapon restrictions.

Unfortunatly I used .bzip to inbed the MANI mod weapon
restriction files into the map, so I will have to
rebuild it and change the name.(fy_dinolockdown)

I assume others might be having a similiar problem, so
try getting rid of any MANI weapon restrictions and
see if that helps. Perhaps mani changed the way it's
read???

Thanks for the info Eric,

Mani and the other Mod guys, know they Hack your code,
and push the limit, I don't get bent out of shape
when the mods break due to your updates. I hope
others don't either.

We are having users in our forums (clan forums) report
only 10-15 frames per second.

I might be having problems myself, I will be updating
my Laptop and testing on my other computers.

[hlds] Update info 6:50CST

Eric, I too fail to find an update on Windows.

C:\servers\source>.\HLDSUpdateTool.exe -command update

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared

version 3
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds'
version 3
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials'
version 7
Checking/Installing 'Source Dedicated Server' version

HLDS installation up to date

Also.. I too found that mani still don't work after
the quick fixes mentioned earlier, It doesn't crash at
startup but does crash later.

That's fine by me though, Valve has to make
inprovments that might break third party apps, I have
dealt with it for years, AMX for 1.6 had the same
problems...

And where is Alfred?
/keep up the good work Eric.

[hlds] Warning about revision R of mani mod

2005-07-16 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
normally, when mani releases an update, I just
download the "patch"

make backups of my cfg folder,

then overwrite my existing files.

but TODAY, I did the same thing for revision R
He also recomended a model pak, so I downloaded it and
overwrote my /cstrike folder.

but now "EVERYONE" who joins the server HAS to
download 16 meg worth of models.
I have edited the mani_server.cfg to turned all the
model crap off, but it still downloads them, and is
crashing like crazy.

I have gone back to version "P" of mani mod, untill he
gets his stuff lined out.

Mani needs to stop making enhancments that are FORCED
on people, any new items should be turned off by
default, OR at least a warning about before I update.

I honestly dont know if it the mani version R that is
forcing people to download, or his recomended "model"
pack.

re: [hlds] Teleport Lag on Bigger Servers Since Last Update...

2005-07-11 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
I seem to having some luck restarting the game servers
on a daily basis.

Saturday morning one of our guys complained that he
was the only person playing yet was warping all over
the place.

I rebooted the Source game servers, and three of us
jumped on and things felt fairly good to me.

I know the server was loaded pretty heavy Friday
night, so perhaps a memory leak?

If you notice allot of warping/lag try shutting the
game server down and restarting after 30 seconds or
so. and lets see if this helps.

[hlds] Problems after update

2005-07-07 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
I have been noticing several issues after last nights
update. I can't put my finger on any one of them so I
will just list them and see if others notice the same
thing. I have been checking the list and wonder why
more people have not said anything. so I guess I will
start.

My computer at home is working fairly good, but my
kids computer is having the same problem as several
members in the clan.

1) Users crash to desktop after connecting to the
server. No error is generated it just goes back to
desktop.. after "MANY" tries it eventually gets in the
server.

2) I noticed several people last night(two of which
played for several hours) then all of the sudden I
notice in the chat box that " disconnected due
to No steam logon"
so I checked the log files on the server and sure
enough, three people were booted for the same reason
in about a two minute period,, Two of which I know and
had been playing all night.

3) FPS drops seem to be about 20 points lower.

4) Pings seem to be about 20 points Higher. my ping
on our server usually runs around 30-35 I have not
been able to get below 50 since the update.

5) things seem a little chopier than normal, probably
related to items 3,4 on the list.

Thanks Kevin

Notes about servers:

Dedicated server W3K, located in Dallas at co-location
facility

two SRCDS servers running 1-18 man and 1-10 man.
CPU usage was around 60% with both servers full (Dual
1ghz p3's 1gb ram)

and I did do a -verify_all on both servers several
times last night.

RE: [hlds] Server Listings

2005-05-24 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
WOW ALfred, Good Informationb, I didn't know this,
and I consider myself Very Technical ( 8 years as sys
admin)
People always come to me for CS troublshooting, and
the first thing I tell them is to set there "internet
speed" to LAN/T1 and reset there rates to default.
because most everyone has DSL or CABLE that is
generally above 1.5mb..

Now from what you have just stated, it is apparent
that I am telling people incorectly. You need to have
some more options for download/upload speeds so that
it gives people the best expierence possible.
example:

56k Modem
DSL 600/128
DSL 1000/256
Cable 1500/200
Cable 3000/300

SO ON AND SO ON

Many of us have always known that the internet speed
settings, and running default .cfg's always work best.
Other than cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate and rate, what
cvars does the internet settings affect?

RE: [hlds] More info on Bad Challenge/No Challenge

2005-05-18 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
Alfred, can you explain why when I turn on net_showudp
that a wide range of ports that are obviosly NOT
serverbrowsers are turning up.
Remember I did these tests on a server that had a
brand new IP address never used for anything. so no
one would have this in there programs. Of course
ASE/gamespy would eventually pick it up from the
Master Server, but it doesn't explain all the Home
PC's I had a steady stream of udp traffic, below is
only about 1 seconds worth of copy/paste , and
according to nslookup these are all homepc's

UDP <- 64.81.227.179:63392: sz=25 OOB 'T'

Correction, SOME of the packets are from ASE If you
look at the list I provided The bad challenge error
was port 27243

here is a yahoo search result for "port 27243"
http://www.wokkel.net:3000/showPortTraffic.html?port=27243

If you google " port 27243 " you will see all kinds of
references for ASE ( All Seeing Eye )

But this still doesn't explain the Weird and varied
ports that are showing from net_showudp 1

Re: [hlds] More info on Bad Challenge/No Challenge

2005-05-18 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
I don't believe its programs like gamespy, I have
used nslookup on MANY MANY of the IP's,, at least 20

All of them appear to be home PC's , Below is a
nslookup on just one of the ip's I listed.

Name:pcp0011791344pcs.hamden01.ct.comcast.net
Address: 69.247.4.250

Name:c68.191.165.193.stp.wi.charter.com
Address: 68.191.165.193

I would think that SRCDS would block all UDP traffic
that is not needed by the netcode. But look at the
list I provided, there is UDP traffic from a wide
range of ports.

[hlds] More info on Bad Challenge/No Challenge

2005-05-18 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
I was playing around with the IP's that always show up
in the console that have the bad challenge message.
I was under the impression that these were probably
people that have an old version of HLSW.
BUT
as a test, I set up a new Source server(password
protected so no one would join) using a "NEW" IP
address thats never been used before. This way no one
will have it in there HLSW.

Funny thing is that I still get the bad challenge
errors.
So I decided to do some more testing. I turned on
net_showudp and below is a typical output that
Constantly streams the console, Below is only a few
seconds of the copy/paste. What I notice is that only
the UDP packet that had a port "around" the range of
ports used by CS got flagged.
Also after playing with this for a little while, I
basically figured out that these strange connections
are probably people on the internet that have Virus's
or spam on there computers and are broadcasting
looking for others to infect. I am not sure if this
means anything or not to anyone, but it's probably
worth someone that is more knowledgable than I, try
the same type of test and see what they think...

note: net_showtcp didnt return ANYTHING even after
leaving it on for several minutes.

Re:[hlds] Most Updates a second?

2005-05-17 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
Since we are on the topic. I would like to ask a
question for anyone willing to help.

On our server (Dual 1ghz CPU's,2.5gb ram) I keep two
Source servers running 1 @ 20 slot & 1 @ 12 slot.
I also run the srcdsbooster and fps_max 300

sv_minrate 5000
sv_maxrate
sv_minupdaterate 13
sv_maxupdaterate 30

Also this server is at a Dediated co-location company
in Dallas.

But I still don't get very good results.. Things get
choppy when both servers are full.
I only recently cut back the second server to 12 slots
because it got so laggy when both servers were full
(about 30+ players)

Could someone take a look at what I posted above and
come up with a better recomendation.

RE: [hlds] mapname.cfg

2005-05-13 Thread \[DinoBot\]Sidmind
Yeh, I use man_mod for that now. I am just requesting
that function from Valve. << that would be nice. it's
awsome that they even did this much.

FYI: all my prior posts to this mailing list were
labled "Kevin Cantrell" I just changed my display
name to my clan tag today..

I don't believe it's possible but I am asking anyway.

Is it possible to restrict weapons with this?

If not, how about you add that to a future update.

It would be so much nicer to have this inbeded from
valve, than to use a MOD.

that way map makers could inbed(bspzip) custom map
cvars(mapname.cfg) into the .bsp file so that when the
map gets distributed around the .net it will be the
same for everyone no matter what MOD they are running.
