RE: [hlds] Video Cards again, Im sorry [OT]

2004-08-13 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
ATI cards
9600XT - runs Doom3 just fine with the Cat4.9 drivers.
9800Pro/XT
x800/x600

nVidia cards
5600 and below... don't bother, they are not an upgrade.
5900/5950 - if you think you must support nVidia
6xxx series cards - I have seen no tests done for HL2. Apparently do well
in Doom3.

Remember, as far as I know, Doom3 = OpenGL and HL2 D3D. Each card, ATI and
nVidia, both can play either one but I see something common here with what
happened several years ago... 3DFX and nVidia. 3DFX was supporting
Direct3D (D3D) and nVidia OpenGL. 3DFX supported miniGL which played OpenGL
games but not nearly as well as their competitors and the competitors
(nVidia) could not play the D3D games as well as 3DFX (e.g. UT). Well, as
it was, the new up and comer was OpenGL, and they won the war but today...
D3D is taking hold... I guess the Graphics Card you decide to purchase will
be a personal choice based on games you play.

RE: [hlds] CS1.6 Map into Condition-Zero

2004-08-11 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
Say you want to create a nav file for the map aim_headshot... I would
install the map and run the map... once the map is up and running I would
add a bot (bot_add). Within short time you will see a progress bar pop up
and the server/bot will go through several tasks to finally come up with a
nav file for you. Once the tasks are complete the server will restart and
voila... bots are configured for the map. Nav files can vary greatly in
size. For instance my de_piranesi_cz.nav file is nearly 3MB and one of my
smallest fy_marioland.nav is only 19KB. I hope this helps a little.

Once you have a bot populating the server is will go through a series of
tasks till it completes with a new nav file. In your case, aim_headshotz.nav

RE: [hlds] How to download CS:S DS?

2004-08-11 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
Create another HLServer directory, one not containing HL1 content, and copy
the hldsupdatetool.exe to the new folder and use the following command from
the new directory from the command prompt.

HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir
[DIRECTORY] -username [USERNAME] -password [PASSWORD]

Just like you did with the first HLDS install, make dang sure you are
running the command from the new directory.

steampowered.com and grabbed teh steam dedicated server (420 megs) and
updated everything, but I'm not seeing anything like srcds.exe after doing
the updates. Is there something I need to be doing with the
hldsupdatetool.exe to get it? Thanks.

What's command line to start a CS:S server? Right now I'm trying this...

srcds.exe -game cstrike +maxplayers 20 +map de_dust

That just brings up the window to run it, but I need it to start running

Once your server has been populated with a bot, the server/bot will go
through the throws and create the *.nav file. Be aware, the creation of the

But if you need AGP, then go with the NVIDIA 6800 or upcoming 6600...
To my knowledge the x800/x600 are only PCI Express.

ATI is the only way to go for Direct X games.
The x800's are also a single slot solution and can run quite comfortably
on a 350 psu.
They also cost less.

Here is a 1/2 decent read regarding video cards. It covers the nVidia

*knowledge based* approach than what might be considered as all hype.

RE: [hlds] Server with bots until get real players

2004-08-01 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
Using a CS:CZ server you can add them several different ways. Here a
couple of examples.

1) If it's a dedicated server you will obviously have to authorize
yourself with the server e.g. rcon_password and then you may
use bot commands by using rcon .

2)If you have a listen server up you can add them by the GUI or in
console above but without the rcon authorization and just the bot
command.

e.g. of bot commands

bot_quota # -this states the number of bots on your server at any
time.
bot_add -this will add a random bot to a needy team
bot_add_t-adds a bot to terrorists team
bot_add_ct -add bot to Counter Terrorists team
bot_kill "name" -kills the bot of that name
bot_kill all -kills all bots
bot_kick "name" -kicks bot by name from server
bot_kick all -kicks all bots from server

There are several other commands... just do a google for it.

RE: [hlds] Bot with CS 1.6

2004-07-29 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
If you use the HLDS GUI, you can add them from there. If you start your
HLDS from command prompt then you add them through your server.cfg e.g.
bot_quota ## or you can manually add them on the fly easily by bot_add,
bot_add_t, bot_add_ct. There are many sites that have the bot commands,
you'll just have to Google it... Like this one here.

RE: [hlds] Denial of service?

2004-07-25 Thread GNewton [-XtenZ-]
Problems with WON and compared with Steam

1) WON servers went down now and then. Steam has problems and hits
a speed bump here and there.
2) When there was an update and you didn't follow the forums or
counter-strike.net you found out the hard way. Steam, well.. it
updates automatically for you.
3) CS beta and retail updates delivered by mirrors (btw, thanks to
you all) and sometimes could take a couple of days (unless you stood
in front of you monitor waiting for the perfect timing for you
download. Steam, well, it does this quicker and I believe Valve
has made it so both server and client are updated quicker.
4) Cheating, Hacking.. Exploits.. what ever you want to call it.
WON, no support except 3rd party programs. Steam, dynamic
delivery of VAC and security updates make it a *safer place to
play...IMO. CD and others may have done this as well but at least
Steam supports its own and 3rd party.
5) CS 1.5> had slightly smaller requirements.. but then again..
eventually, you will have to upgrade.
6) CS1.5/*WON had this wonderful cmd prompt... oh.. yes.. It is
still there in Steam's version and you still use the cmd promt/cmd
line hlds
to start your dedicated services although they do offer a GUI
for your*not-so-experienced* or lazy (hehe) admin.
7) Quote from post below " But I do think that Valve deserves a
well DOSS attack. The WON was one of the most innovative things in
CS" Bud, that is a lame attitude and may somebody unplug your
connection for you quickly before you hurt yourself.

Steam, the evolution of game content delivery. Try it, Mikey likes it.

Subject: Re: [hlds] Denial of service?

ofcourse there'd be more players on the Steam network versus WON prior
to the shutdown. CS 1.6 upgrade accounts for most of it. The people
are upgrading to Steam weather they like it or not. They know that
Valve will soon discontinue support for a previous version. I must say
though, I hate Steam. It's quite unrealiable at times. It also uses up
extra CPU and memory resource that I could be using on something else,
like say, the game itself? I don't see why Steam the application is
necessary. i don't need the instant messenger, i don't need the games
menu, and I don't need some other stuff while Im playing. In my
opinion they should make a version of CS that uses the Steam network
but doesn't require you to have the Steam client installed. I'd be
happy to put some extra juice from my CPU and Memory into my gaming
experience. The WON system was easy to work with . You didn't need to
create an account. You didn't need to login to anything. It was much
easier to work with. It was straight forward. To play you would click
on Counter-Strike on the desktop and then enter the IP address of a
server or find one then connect and play. With Steam it makes the
process longer. Sometimes my friends find servers that still has 2 or
3 players, and back in the 1.5 days, i'd launch The All Seeing Eye,
then select the server from my list of usuals, and connect immediatly
sealing my spot on the server. Now days I have to click on the CS icon
on my dekstop, click Find Server, then click favourites, and choose
the server I want, start the session and wait while Steam is
downloading this, and downloading that... it's annoying. Steam also
tries to replace the beloved command based console with graphical
GUI's. Sure its easier to use for the average joe that wants to play.
But they didn't have to GUIfy the dedicated server. In my opinion
Steam is one of the more useless things that are running in my Task
Manager. Yet it seems to be using up resource it doens't need. But
then again thats my opinion. What is it worth in a big newsletter like
this where it was meant for Windows server admins to discus certain
subjects. But I do think that Valve deserves a well DOSS attack. The
WON was one of the most innovative things in CS, and most of us only
realise it's importance now that it's near its death. Leaving some a
slow, paintful, and forceful transition to the infamous Steam network.
Dear WON, may you rest in peace...

Sorry, but I don't know anybody that would prefer WON over Steam, and I
can't possibly imagine why anyone would.

Would not be surprised. If Valve were to ask the players and admins who
wants Steam, and who wants WON, the overwhelming majority would still
vote
for WON. There are a lot of people pissed about WON being shut off. I
don't
condone DOS attacks, but Valve pretty much asked for it this time. I
think
that Valve and Steam are going to have a rough week.

Translated loosely to.

Olá lists! The EULA of the HL comes written in English: it would not be
ridicule I to go to vender a product for U.S.A., not speaking English? Valve
that it writes eulas in the respective languages where vende its products.
He would not be rídiculo, I to buy a commercial car for my company, and to
have to pay to the manufacturer a percentage of my profits? It was the TOTAL
LOLADA. He would not be rídiculo, I to buy a musical compact disc and each
time that wanted it to hear would have to pay to the publishing company?
They pray say me there if it is not ridicule that one puto arrives at the
13:00 when cyber to play cs and gets simple "updating steam platform",
"invalid ticket" or any treta of género? Because valve is of the other side
of the ocean and is little cagando for the remaining portion of the world as
well as all the Americans. It is more than since most of the players is
European, the champions of this excrement are European. Nor content servers
of skill has here. The world is not a war mine bestas^2. However, paying it
"Monthly to I Fee", it would be now to the wait until monday that my
customers could play cs, because although we to pay the HL-income, we go to
be the end-of-week all á waits that they alguem decides this bug. However
nobody plays cs until there. Pretty it is not? Who only plays wants! Exacto.
Not I am in favor of hacks nor cracks nor keygens, because I am programmer
and that is a product and has that to be paid, as any another one. Only not
taste of being stolen and by top still enjoyed for cambada of putos that the
only culture that has is of mêtêvê. It is for these and others, that all the
owners of cybercafes and lan houses that I know if they refuse to pay á
Valve whatsoever, after having pay cdzinho of the Half-life, will only
receive ones posters... They come here to process me... Inté clowns. . . The
more I know you, more I recognize the legitimacy of the attempted against
