I agree with you ! VALVe can easily make it same as DODS ! Cvars will be
more easier than plugins wich can cause some of high cpu usage or be broken
by an update !

I dont argue that, but Valve needs to make cvars available for your
 configs ;-)
The online leagues use league specific configs to limit classes and
whatever else they see fit. Each clan must run the league config.

I think TF2 has a lot of potential in the clan scene, and I have already
signed my team up in the Euro CB ladder :-).

I have no problem with your argument concerning class restrictions, but
there are a few things just as important – especially the possibility to
inflict damage on yourself BEFORE the round starts. Why? Already we see
übercharged Heavy's at roundstart public, where a player uses the time
before start to step on his own grenades as demoman to faster achive
ûbercharge for his medic partner. As the round starts, he then may switch to
heavy and plough though the freshly established defenses, with small efforts
and little worry about own safety.

Picture 3 übercharged Heavy's at round start in an 8 vs. 8 match. Not a
 pretty sight imho.

This isn't a big problem in public servers, but I honestly think it should
be possible to deactivate this with a cvar in warscripts.

 Just my 2 cents :o)

Yes please VALVe make a class restriction !

Make it same as DODS

2007/10/22, Saint K. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Isn't the whole idea behind the game, to choose a class which fits the
 needs
 of the moment?

I mean if your being bashed by 8 scouts, just get 3 or 4 Engineers to
 setup
some SG's at strategic points for a scoutproof defense.

The others in your team then can aim at offense, at one point their scouts
have to change class to be able to properly defend their flag, as your
 team
 is running off with it.

If I'm being defeated by some sort of tactic, I always feel the urge to
 find
a counter-tactic to prevent them from succeeding the next round with the
 same trick.

 Hi,

Is there any chance Valve will be introducing class limits in to TF2, like
 we had with TFC?

Now, before you all flame me telling me class limits ruins the game, they
don't, and for competition they are needed.
Nothing is worse than a team complain that the match was unfair due to an
8man scout rush on a cp_ map, or even a loosing team all sat being heavys
 on
 there flag.

While at the moment, we are using good sportsmanship to stop this kind of
thing from happening, it would also benefit public servers as well, in the
sense they won't have the same problems.

 Regards,
 Dan.

Yes, same problem with my c2d 2.6 ghz, debian, kernel 1000hz, server running

Has anyone noticed performance related issues with the Linux version of
 TF2?

Take 2 boxes to compare, one running windows one running linux. Both
identical hardware in Dual Xeon 2.6ghz.

The windows box I run 1 TFC server and 3 TF2 servers. Running a simple
booster I get 125-250 fps even when the servers are full.
On a 1000hz distru of Linux runnin 2 TFC servers (no problems what so
ever) and 2 TF2 servers, even with just one TF2 server when it gets full the
serverside fps drops down to 20-40fps and rcon stats reports 80-90CPU usage.

Yet the process in linux only shows around 20-30%?

Just a little bit baffled as TFC runs fine on the box and both identical
spec machines the only difference is the OS and binarys?

Have I missed something in my rush to get my hands on the game and play
 it? :D

   Regards
   John

Does anyone know why Valve is so conservative with server set up
 information?

Why dont they ever tell us what params can be passed to srcds.exe (god
 forbid giving us a /? or -h)?

Why dont they ever release a sample server.cfg or at least tell us what
cvars are available or what they recommend?

It seems that everything is passed along on a whisper or some information
that someone guessed or happened to fall into by pure chance.

Am I missing some secret document here, or is this the way its always been
done and they'll not break from tradition?

You either spend hours hand crafting your server.cfg by grabbing little
snippets of info from here and there, or you just go and download one from
 a
fansite or someone who is kind enough to release their hard work (which
 tend
to be months or years out of date and can do more harm than good).

At the end of the day, the game would not make it without people like us
 who
host the servers on their own dime/penny. Could valve please provide us
server hosters with a decent bit of info instead of throwing the
 preverbial
meat into the pit and letting people scrabble for it?

If I have missed the official page which shows all the information I have
talked about here, then woot and please post up the link, if not then bad
 valve, shame on you ;)

 Thoughts?

Does anyone know why Valve is so conservative with server set up
  information?

Why dont they ever tell us what params can be passed to srcds.exe (god
  forbid giving us a /? or -h)?

Why dont they ever release a sample server.cfg or at least tell us what
cvars are available or what they recommend?

It seems that everything is passed along on a whisper or some
 information
that someone guessed or happened to fall into by pure chance.

Am I missing some secret document here, or is this the way its always
  been
done and they'll not break from tradition?

You either spend hours hand crafting your server.cfg by grabbing little
snippets of info from here and there, or you just go and download one
  from
  a
fansite or someone who is kind enough to release their hard work (which
  tend
to be months or years out of date and can do more harm than good).

At the end of the day, the game would not make it without people like
 us
  who
host the servers on their own dime/penny. Could valve please provide us
server hosters with a decent bit of info instead of throwing the
  preverbial
meat into the pit and letting people scrabble for it?

If I have missed the official page which shows all the information I
 have
talked about here, then woot and please post up the link, if not then
 bad
  valve, shame on you ;)

  Thoughts?
