No, I don't think he did... Anyway, my point wasn't to start a debate on
task manager, but to suggest a different approach to checking CPU. The
one-graph-per-cpu thing is something I didn't know about, so thanks for that

That is true the one bar graph does show the total CPU usage percent, but
come on, if you can't take a look to the right and see the percent of each
CPU and realize that one is peging then I would have to say look again, it's
rather hard to miss one CPU sitting at a 100% and the rest sitting at 4-8%.

Did he ever say how many CPU's/Core's he has?

I just googled "steam id exploit" and found several references to this type
of exploit from back in 2004. Perhaps it's back again? If you dig deep
enough you will find a few discussions on how they can be STEAM_ID Pending
for awhile, and then basically manufacture a new ID on the fly.

Anyways, good luck with this. Thankfully we've yet to see it hit our Garry's

[hlds] Team Balancing

What are most people using for team balancing these days? I managed to get
ptbx to work on my gg server, but I can't stand the auto join crud. I don't
see where there's much of anything out there that still works after the last
few steam updates. I know mani's plugin has some team balancing, but nothing
quite like the detail that ptbx uses.

How would you check? I have started server with all other computers off. Not
much else running on server. When I started it this time with netgear router
server stayed on list for 15 minutes. The reason I would like to use 27015
is because the 6 range ports don't stay static, when server is restarted
for whatever reason port changes. Makes admins, and players have to search
for it. Only d-link runs 6 range, and I have it port forwarded to 27015.

Yes I do suck really badly at all DoDs games but not for the reasons you're
on about.

I used to play CS 1.6 - My clan was formed out of a non gaming community - a
large London based messageboard. Some of us are veteran gamers, others are
complete noobs. A lot of the fun is trying to help noobs develop their
skills over time.

We're mostly in our 30s and 40s and playing a bunch of laid back people in
the evenings is great.

Good luck with whatever you are doing, I really do mean that. I wouldn't
dream of doing what you're doing because unfortunately the type of community
you are trying to run, is there to attract the best skilled gamers.

My community is about laid back people having a laugh and fun.

Your community has to deal with a high proportion of mentally ill people up
their own backsides.

My community does not.

Each one to their own.

DoDs is a WW2 shoot-out game. The guest pass system is being tested on that
game AND it's a "marketing ploy" - a rather good and welcome one at that. It
means that I all those people in my clan, who have only CS:S can try out
DoDs on my DoDs server - they see that it's a good game and a community
atmosphere is built on my DoDs server. After a month, I can see most of them
shelling out for DoDs.and so can Valve by the looks of it.

It's only useless with respect to players who want to exploit stuff. Rate
hackers and the like will immediately change it back. So if people want to
play with shitty rates, and interp set at like 0.3 so they can still kill
someone 5 seconds after that person goes around a corner, we will not be
able to force their rates/interp/etc to something reasonable, and instead
will just ban them and move on. Even if they change that cl_restrict cvar
back, we can see what they're runnin their settings at, and take any
appropriate action if needed.We have a lot of cool peeps who play on our
servers and don't need shitheads like that to fill the place up, so no loss.

It's very usefull with respect to the admins and legit players on our
servers who want to know "when will the server be fixed?". These people
aren't looking to exploit anything, they just want to play a game, and the
admins want to know why various commands won't work, and everyone wants to
know why some or all of the functionallity of various game enhancing plugins
we run doesn't work I tell them that the server is running perfect, that
Valve broke their client, and explain how to fix it. For the technically
oriented peeps this is a simple matter. But we also have everyday folk who
maybe are firefighters, or cut fish for a living etc. You start talking
about changing stuff, no matter how simple it is (one setting change in this
case) and it's a long drawn out conversation, especially when you're trying
to do it in a game server that only allows you to write a couple lines of
text at a time, and that text gets quickly lost in the flow of what else is
going on in the game. Multipy that by many dozens of users and it goes far
beyond being a pain in the ass.

If running our servers was something I got paid for (which it IS NOT) then
I'd love the extra job security brought by this fiasco. But since I operate
servers for free (and some of us PAY to provide them to everyone in general
for free) I'de prefer to not have to become a full time volunteer help desk
operator in order to do so. So on that note, a BIG BIG THANKS to Lduke for
closing my helpdesk (at least for now) and automating for us something that
has been consuming a ton of my time these past few days, manually walking
any endless number of people through how to 'unbreak' their clients.

I just don't like it when you can't buy all the ct weapons when you're a ct.
I'm not real good at the game, but still like to have a chance. I may have
gotten it, but not sure cause I only play against bots. I changed the
mp_startmoney to 1600 but didn't see a difference, then I turned off the
dynamic weapons crap and it may be okay now, just have to play against real
players to see for sure

depends coz if he wants to keep the classic game play but in turn wants

How can I change my Counter-Strike Source server so that players can
purchase any weapons any time they want. Let me rephrase that, how can I
make it so when the round starts and they are in the buy zone they are able
to purchase any weapon they want, until the buy time expires(no need to
change that).
