Exactly. I only used the 12-year-old example to illustrate the fact that
some people discriminate based on age alone, or bandwidth alone, or CPU
power alone, etc., which in my view is elitist.

If you think that having a powerful box and unlimited bandwidth makes your
server good, then you're wasting your time running a server because with
that attitude it's most likely one of those servers I spoke of where the
admins abuse the players on a whim just because they can.

Funny, that's exactly what I wanted to know. So I searched every file in
 the
  Steam directory and nothing.
Near as I can tell it is stored in Windows Virtual Memory. You can
 observer
this by watching the amount of virtual memory used go up as you refresh
 the
list, and stop if you stop refreshing (Open Windows Task Manager in XP,
in
view menu select columns, then check the Virtual Memory Size checkbox).
 This
could also just be the extra memory needed by the application to sort
and
display the list, but I don't think so. If you exit Steam it frees up
the
memory (obviously). Upon restarting Steam it will download a new list
when
you open the Server browser to the Internet Tab. The full list will
always
take up approximately the same size of virtual Memory.

I didn't get to spend too much time on this, as I was supposed to be
working. :) It just piqued my curiosity. I had to know.

which servers are NOT being displayed.

My 19,000 is with ALL filters removed.

But is anything going to be done about the amount of cheating in the
Valve

I would like a general public banlist, aside from VAC, that admins can
download, and add to. Maybe a program that scans your banlist, uploads the
new ones to and online database, then downloads the newly compiled banlist
each night? I think that would work well.

I don't know what you guys would think about this but this is a really
good
time to think about bittorrent as an option. It's perfect for distributing
large files to a large audience. If many people chose to use BT, then
people
would have no problem at downloading hl2 at 300KB/s and up, plus, this
would
reduce valve's need for bandwidth more than half.

  [ Converted text/html to text/plain ]
Networking Maths for Dummies (Something you have to wonder about with
  Valve)
Total Available Network Bandwidth for STEAM Content Servers: 8Gb/s
Total Number of Counter-Strike Players 1,000,000 (Probably a lot
higher
  if
  you consider actual STEAM Clients)
Total Size of HL2 = A Few Gigabytes (Lets say 2GB's compressed just to
be
charitable, actually lets make it 1 Gigabyte to simplfy the maths)
Lets say only 25% of the people who want HL2 try to download it, thats
approximately 250,000 people ( I know that every man and his dog is
  waiting
for HL2 from all the games on our service who would not touch
  Counter-Strike
with a 10 foot pole, so any number I come up with is going to be worse!)
To keep things simple 8Gbps = 1,000,000,000 Bytes Per Seccond
250,000 people trying to download through 1,000,000,000 Bytes Per
Seccond
total bandwidth = 4000 bytes per second per client or more or less 4KB/s
  (Yay)
Time to take to download 1GigaByte at 4KiloBytes per Second = ??
4KB/s will get you 240KB a minute so lets be charitable and say you are
  going
  to get 15MB per hour
Thats means 360MB a day or just under 3 days to download 1 Gigabyte
  through
STEAM content servers, and thats downloading 24 hours a day for the full
  amount of time.
If they double the available bandwith then they halve the time for
250,000
users, but I'm making the assumption that its only going to be 250,000
  users,
who here thinks its only going to be 250,000 people trying to download
  HL2???
Who here thinks HL2 is only going to be 1 Gigabyte in Size?
Who here thinks only 250,000 people will be wanting access to Half-Life
2?
Can any of you see any of the problems I foreseen being resolved even if
  Valve
double or triple or quaddruple their STEAM Content Servers Bandwidth??
Hell, Valve can barely keep up with with those people who have Condition
  Zero
and ATI vouchers without their network falling into a heap!
  I predict another disaster
I know how they can alleviate the problem though, but I do not know how
  big a
deal it is, but Valve definitely did not have a problem preloading
  Condition
Zero on my computer and its updates without my consent, I cannot even
turn
  off
the fact that its going to do this, which shits me to no end.
But in any case the way to help solve the bandwidth limitation problem
  would
be to release the HL2 gcf file(s) to all the major file distributor
sites
  and
let people download it through there and pick up any pieces through the
  STEAM
Content Servers, thats how it should be done until Valve have access to
a
STEAM Content Network with at least 100Gbps worth of Bandwith which even
  then
probably wouln't be enough, but at least it would not be a total
disaster!
I couldn't get in at all last night. If you think this is a circus,
 wait
 until HL2 comes
out - it will be a friggin' zoo for weeks unless they actually do
 something
different to ensure they have the bandwidth. I hate to be negative,
 but
Valve has not yet been able to handle a major roll out without
 serious
bandwidth problems. Bandwidth costs money - a lot of money - and
 Valve may
be content to have us just wait our turn. They probably think we
 want it
badly enough to put up with crap it takes to get updates during peak
 bandwidth periods.

You do realize that they increased their bandwith to 8Gb/s for the CS:S
pre-load and only used one half of that. When Hl2 release approaches the
plan is to increase it another 4Gb/s.

Yeah but there are stealth hackers everywhere.
They keep the hacks off until they get in to trouble with another player.
You know ... 5 HP and you're the only one left.

I've seen many people come in to a server and get a great streak ... 12 to
0
 or 1 lets say.

Then ease off after that and only turn on hacks to keep the best score /
 ratio.

The problem is far worse than any of you admins think.
I am sure you and many other players say oh yeah ... He's cool. I've
 watched him.

 But chances are he aint.

Every time VAC or any other anti-cheat was updated, scores across the
world
dropped by 50 % until new hacks were written.
These are statistical averages that can't be argued away.

I would wager over 3/4 of all CS players have hacks loaded and use them at
 least once in a while.

I ran a server at my office on T1 and personally loaded 20 guys PC's with
 CS.

We would play starting at 3:30PM each day.

After about six months I found hacks loaded on several PC's and wrote a
script to remove or damage them automatically.

The half the guys started playing from home. LOL

 People can't resist cheating.

Lets face it VAC has been a total washout.
Each VAC update we get gives us four hours of no cheating ... That's it.
Valve does not have the programming resources to keep up with the
hackers who write this stuff for free.

All of the anti cheat detections have failed ... The hackers have won.

We can either set up our servers with a password and invite friends or
 maybe
we all should hack to make it even.

THAT WOULD BE A LAUGH EH

It would totally ruin any hacks now and in the future if we all used
them.

 Level playing field once again

 OR
Have admins on your server, i ran a server for 3 years, my ban list grew
and
grew, so did my list of regulars who liked playing on a fair admined
server... eventually you weed out the tards and have a clean server...
VAC/CD/HLguard just help you NEED an admin there as much as possible.

By the end I had such a concise ban list, I rarely saw a hacker at all,
maybe once a month, and this was with a server always half full of
non-regs.

That's the only way to truely show hackers the front door...

It's also natural for players to have streaks. I have never used a
cheat, but I will very often go on a 5-7 man killing streak, then get
pwned for a couple minutes, and cycle again.

seperate from steam completly, and nearly all of server addons are built

Re: [hlds] Server with bots until get real players

2004-08-01 Thread Skirecs
Standalone is much better ,easier to configure, (metamod adminmod ect...)
seperate from steam completly, and nearly all of server addons are built for
it.
google realbot and read up on it there.
I you ahve any trouble contact me offlist.

I am using standalone dedicated server. I don't know exactly what you mean
 by AIM.

PS: Just a doubt coming from your question. What is the difference using
dedicated server stand alone or from steam?

I have read a message where someone wrote that is possible to fill

bots

I read that message on this group some time ago if i am not

A software firewall on Win98 is a bad ping looking for a place to
 happen.
But no map tells me that he doesn't have a -map mapname on the startup
shortcut, and no map in autoexec.cfg. I have no clue where he is getting
 the
2000 ping from, especially if no map is loading. But we won't know until

Venham cá processar-me...

there isn't anything you can really tweak to improve it.

Re: [hlds] Need help with commands and working server

2004-06-29 Thread Skirecs
Some commands may work from the server console. Some may only be executed
from the client console some both. When you write the plugin, there are
different commands within the plugin like cl_ sv_, ect, which describe if it
executable by server console or client console. You could rewrite all your
plugins to be able to be executed at both the server and the client
consoles.

Here is a section from my bot controller..

public plugin_init()
{
register_plugin(Realbot Controller,1.0,Skirecs)
register_clcmd(amx_bot_add,botadd,ADMIN_VOTE,Adds a Realbot)
register_clcmd(amx_bot_remove,botremove,ADMIN_VOTE,Removes a
Realbot)
register_clcmd(amx_bot_flush,botflush,ADMIN_VOTE,Empties Server of
Realbots)
return PLUGIN_HANDLED
}

Its the register_clcmd that makes it a command only executable by the
client. Its been a while, but im pretty sure register_svcmd is server.

it would be good if you add some enviormental lighting to go with the gun
 muzzel flashes..
so if one is sitting in a dark area..the area around that player gets
 lighten up...

i think it would look cool n all...

i dont know if i am using the correct terminology to explain myself.
 i hope game developers understand

and couple of more things should be changed in CS 1.6
e.g. it has the same old 7 years old sounds... and radio commands..

radio commands from CZ deleted scenes should be implemented in cs 1.6
 update.
sniper sound from CZ should be implemented in cs 1.6
sounds from CZ deleted scenes were the bomb.. contniue with those...

and please stop making CZ look more like cartoonish skins etc etc.

talk to Natural Selection people make a MOD CS Vs. NS CTs instead of
 humans
CS guns for the humans... aliens stay the same.

change somethings...NS has taken more then half of CS players worldwide..
2005 maybe Game of the year Natural Selection

do something which no one has done after doom2...
Cooperative game play killing Aliens in HL2...
CZ single player mission should be cooperative...

everything is not DEATHMATCH or Vs. game play..

 lets see...
 doom2 had ok graphics...
 doom2 had ok sounds
 doom2 had ok music..
but then why is everyone dying for doom 3?

maybe back in the old days everyone enjoyed playing a cooperatie game!!!
:)

u guys must be thinking i am mad...lol sorry i got nothing better to do at
 work..

This just started but basically what is happening is I can view my server
on
Steam or HLDS (rcon to it and all), but when I try to connect to it in
game
it retries 4 times then says failed to connect to server. So I changed IPs
(I have 11 total on my box) then it started to work, but now after a few
hours I check up on it and the same thing again. Does anyone have an
insight
on what is causing this? I can view it and see its ping times but when I
try
 to connect it can't. Thanks

I have had this problem in the past and solved it by setting UDP_loose
parameters on my firewall as described here:

 http://en.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/looseudp.html

Thing is if you are running a broadband router you may not have access to
these settings. Best bet is to update the firmware, or look for a firmware
 hack.

Well, i think i have this problem too. But the interesting thing is, if
the
server is not listed, there would be no activity on the server, but in my
server, theres a lot of activity, never goes empty, never. I am behind a
router too. Not a firewall. The problem that i am aware of with my server,
is the port. It is a random port, 50011 i think it is now. I have
forwarded
the port from my Modem and from my router, 27015 that is. And the port is
still the same. I dont know if i have to restart my computer though. I
didnt. Well, i know this wasnt much help, but i cant find my server on the
 list either.

 HI ,
I am running a CS 1.6 server. The problem is that the ip that says on the
hlds is not the actual one. The IP in the hlds is : 169.254.47.249:27015.
when you try to connect to that ip it doesnt work. then i go onto
gametiger.com, and i type in the name of the server (TeamKD Clan Server) and
the ip that shows up is this one: 65.6.168.6:50286. I never knew that kind
of port existed. i dont have any firewalls, and im running it through a dsl
connected to a router connected to my computer directly, no wireless. People
do connect to the server, in ffact, its a pretty active server, except that
for my crappy box many people leave because of the lag, i use the computer
too so that just makes more lag and spikes. Please someone tell me how to
fix this.
