i dont get how you can go on a list of stuff you dont like on servers, that
mostly i agree with, but someone porn sprays is okay, while ppl under 20
isnt.

i find normally the gimps with pr0n sprays ARE kids under 20

nice rant otherwise

I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't really take offense at the
12-year-old phrase. It was the overall attitude of "your puny cable servers
shouldnt be on the same list with my mighty one".

Re: [hlds] [OT] The "community"

2004-08-30 Thread hash
I thank Dennis for voicing himself far better than I ever could. I too run a
couple of servers off a cable connection, and while its far from what I'd
like to have, it's making due with what I have and what I have to spend. The
40 or so regulars seem to enjoy it, so I guess you really can run a server
from cable, within reason.

What, exactly, is the problem with 12 year old running servers anyways? If I
came home to find my 12 year old had figured out how to set up a server for
him and his friends to play on, I'd be thrilled that he'd be following my
footsteps into geekdom. So with the new server listings you have to scroll a
bit and be a bit more choosey to avoid servers like this. While this can be
slightly annoying, I don't see how this is as big of a deal as everyones
making it out to be.

I'm sure everyone knows this link, but Whisper made a point of a guide so
http://server.counter-strike.net/ . Yes it's cs specific, but the info there
can be used for any hl server. It has a very detailed guide, and even
answers "how many people can I run on my 512/256 ADSL connection??".

I'm not going to rip on valve, but the last two years has been nothing but
pushed back release dates, ignoring VAC for other projects, and bug fixes
that fix two things and brings three. Again, I'm not ripping on valve for
this, I'm just saying that it's not exactly new, or anything different. So
now that source beta is out and HL2 is finally coming out (we think), work
on VAC has seems to be completely halted - again tho, who didn't see this
coming? Frustrating as hell I agree, but not exactly a surprise.

yanno u can goto microsoft and sign up for a "eval" version of 2k3 32 bit
edition and 64. completely free and run fine for 6 months before you have to
buy it.

just fyi. this way u can give 2k3 a spin free.

odd thing is, microsoft doesnt actually keep the 6 month time-out on their
end, so a reinstall gives you another 6 months.

Re: [hlds] Windows 2000 or Windows 2003?

2004-06-14 Thread hash
nope, 2k does not support hyperthreading

and as mentioned earlier, both 2k and 2k3 are basically the same os, just
with slight differences. theres more setup that has to be done on 2k3 since
its server software, and has nothing set up on install.

as for whoever said xp for win servers, i would like u to send me some of
that fine jamacian weed you're smoking, cuz im out at the moment.

ive used both and honestly, i saw 0 difference.

2k3 supports hyperthreading tho, so if ur cpu supports it, id go with 2k3.
otherwise ones about as good of a choice as the other.

When was the last VAC update? Wasn't it like a month ago? Sure was nice when
it was being updated several times a week. Any chance on getting a comment
from a Valve employee as to if/when the updates will pick up again?

Thanks,
