Re: [hlds] Alfred Can we get some up to date STEAM Cache Installation files please?

2005-05-11 Thread Renzo Rosales
I've yet to do it myself with HL2 but before Steam came out, I had HL
installed and registered my CD key with my steam account and I could
use my existing installation of HL to make the Steam cache. So I'm
assuming you can do something similar with that coverdisc, you just
need a CD key to unlock the cache off the CD.

You have to get special permission from Valve to do so

I'm not sure that this can be completly true as the whole of steam,
half life 2 and counter strike was put on to this months PC Gamer (UK)
coverdisc. You only needed a valid steam account to unlock it. I think
the term they used was '56k friendly'

Except for the Official STEAM Cache Files, it is illegal (or at least
against the EULA) to redistribute STEAM Installs.
You are not helping with your advice, it is irrelevent and useless, and not
what I was asking for, so stop wasting our time.

Did I? All I said was that you can (sort of) make your own Steam Cache
files by backing up the game and storing the file wherever you want.

I'm making an assumption that Steam Cache was used to install those
mods/games on the computer when the Steam network couldn't handle it
the load. Nowadays, you can backup a current game via Steam then copy
it over to another system and restore the game, eliminating the need
for Steam updates via the Internet.

Alfred
Can we get some up to date STEAM Cache Installation Files please since they
do not appear to have been updated since 2003 for:
 CS 1.6 Only
DoD Only
HL Only
STEAM_FULL
A cache file that helps with any Source Content ISP's can deliver as 1 big
Source Install File or files broken down would be great too
Maybe make this an annual or bi-annual event available to content hosters
only perhaps?
 Thanks
