[hlds] Auto-updating a server

2005-07-14 Thread Graham Robinson
Easy question for you guys...

I rent a linux server with an autoupdate flag on it. When the last
update came my server turned off to download it. However, because this
isn't a required update the server hasn't stopped to download it.

Is there an rcon command (I don't have command line access) to tell
the server to download the update or do I have to talk to the hosting
company.

Thanks

Graham

Does that download an update if it's waiting then?

It will terminate the server, and (if setup by your provider, and I would
say it is) the server will start up again and check for updates (so it may
take several minutes to come back online).

Type 'version' in the console (or via hlsw) to compare the version
information before and after the restart to see if anything happened.

I get

Exe version 1.0.0.22 (cstrike)
Exe build: 14:38:43 Jun 28 2005 (2425)

so it looks like it hasn't. Maybe I'll scribble an email to the hosts

19:03:52 Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.22 (cstrike)
Exe build: 11:40:18 Jul 6 2005 (2433)

Is the output from an updated source server.

Quit the server (issue rcon quit) and see if it comes back up.

Came back up really quickly (about 40 seconds, a normal rcon quit)
with that same version.

Your going to need to have your host update it for you then (they should be
starting the server with -autoupdate in the command line).

Thanks for your help with this. My host is going to do a manual update
to make sure everything up to date.

Also an appology as I have just remembered that this was really a
linux only question in a windows / generic mailing list. Seeing as I
wasn't flamed I will presume I'm forgiven ;)
