[hlds] Clients stuck in connecting state

2007-09-24 Thread Daz @ Dustworld
Hi there,

I've noticed a strange problem which is that on my windows TF2
servers, it seems that clients can get stuck in a "connecting" state
and not time out from the server, occupying a slot but never joining.
On a server that has been up for 4 days or so, and very busy in general
maintaining 24/24, I now have 8 slots occupied by people who have
never joined. This is how the rcon status looks:

I've blocked out steamids and ips, but as you can see for example #
827 "AutoFodder" STEAM_0:0:x 115:20:54 78 0 connecting 8x3:27005 thats
115 hours he's been in the "connecting" state. I can kick these people
off via console and free the slots up, but I just wondered if there
was any way to set a connecting timeout for instance, so people who
are "connecting" for more than 2 minutes are kicked? Or if anyone else
has experienced this/got a solution?

I'm not sure if this same problem occurs on linux as my linux publics
aren't really popular enough to see at the moment.

Cheers

I've seen this behavior in cs:s as well in a win2k3 environment, the only way
to kick them was to use hlsw via rcon. Running status in game left no info nor
was it possible to kick. Doesn't happen to often though I'd figure it was worth
mentioning. Viewing externally with hlsw just seems to show a session was
started though no connection was established.

I've not seen this happen yet in TF2.

Peace

Hi All,
I've have a friend who's had this problem from the client side, and it's to
any server that he tries to connect to not just mine. The connecting process
basically hangs at the "Retreiving Server Information" stage and never
recovers. On the Server it shows them as connecting but they never actually
join the game. On my server at least he eventually times out and the slot is
free'd up. We haven't been able to find a solution yet, it's very frustrating.

We've verified the game cache, disabled firewalls etc. About the only thing we
haven't done so far is delete the local content and re-download it.
We would also appreciate any suggestions to resolve this.

Peter.
