[hlds] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Update Released

2011-08-30 Thread Jon Lippincott
The replay system has been added and is now live.

You can find the document on setting up a replay server
herehttp://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22333197.

Please post feedback about the system
herehttp://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2073934.

If you discover any major issues, please mail me directly at
j...@valvesoftware.com.

There are some UI issues at the moment, and a crash on exit that we are aware
of. We are working on a patch to fix these issues, but wanted to get the
system out sooner rather than later.

Enjoy!

the drop command.
- Fixed several ragdoll animation problems related to cl_minmodels.

- Fixed bug in which the spectator UI would disappear after a mode switch or
similar renderer change.
- Changed the size of the bomb icon on the spectator UI

[hlds] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Update Available

2010-08-23 Thread Jason Ruymen
A required update for Counter-Strike: Source Beta is now available. The
specific changes include:

- Fixed a memory leak in the dedicated server.
- Fixed a problem that could cause the crosshair to expand briefly after the
trigger is released.
- Made crosshair scale independently of framerate, matching the old behavior at
100 fps. This does not affect actual recoil, fire rate, or spread - only the
expansion of the crosshair. Added cl_legacy_crosshair, which defaults to the
new behavior.
- Made the crosshair for the Glock and Famas scale correctly upon firing in
burst mode.
- Removed ability to jump to inaccessible locations using grenades
(flashboosting). Added sv_enableboost (defaulted to 0) for those who prefer to
allow this behavior.
- Fixed an issue with involving incorrect armor protection vs. grenade damage.
Added sv_legacy_grenade_damage (defaulted to 0) to allow servers to revert to
the original behavior.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the freezecam sound to be heard when
spectating a player who dies.
- Fixed an issue that could cause KeyHintText to generate junk characters.
- Prevented ragdoll spasm that could occur when using the jointeam command.
- Addressed a problem with the sniper rifles that prevented unzooming during
auto-reload after shooting all the bullets in a clip.
- Fixed an issue with the AWP and Scout that could cause their zooms to vibrate
briefly after a reload.
- Fixed map cycling so that the cycle now starts from the map selected by the
user instead of going back to the first map.
- Fixed mp_restartgame so that it resets MVPs as well as score and deaths.
- Removed fun fact from achievements summary screen and associated
playerblotter functionality.
- Throttled warning messages for disabled achievements to no more than once
every 60 seconds.
- Made disconnect messages wrap so they don't get truncated.
- Made kick / disconnect messages more legible.
- Made the silhouette that appears when you hit AUTO-SELECT on the Terrorist
choose a class screen fit within its borders.
- Made the 'X' that closes the achievements screen visible by default in
1280x720 resolution.
- Fixed lock radar rotation option in the GUI. Setting this option now works.
- Fixed a buffer overrun exploit that could be used to attack/crash servers.
- Fixed a crash at startup when no sound emitter scripts were loaded.
- Smoke grenades:
- fixed occlusion bug.
- made it bigger.
- reduced grenade elasticity.
- De_Inferno
-fixed known exploits and bugs.

Strangely enough I mentioned in another mail thread, we have a couple of
win2k3 servers (mostly we have linux) and those have never had to have
srcdsbooster or anything (just default install, no extra apps at all
running) and run at 500fps (if fps_max is 600). Not sure why that is and
others don't but happy to check any processes that someone may think is
doing it and see if its running.

I'm guessing that oddly enough if a way is found to increase fps it will hit
the same problem though anyway and get the same bad performance (if thats
the issue). We don't run 100tick any more so can't comment on cpu util for
that, just 66.

This is really odd. The problem is that system timer resolution can be
changed once after OS was started and program does not really need to
keep running after that so the list of processes won't help I'm
afraid... Do you have ogswatcher or similar tool?

Hiya, nope don't have anything like that. Just have the servers and perl
scripts managing them (which I don't think could do anything like that).
We're rebuilding a win2k3 box in the near future, so I'll try and do a css
server straight away before anything else to test just to confirm when its
done.

I don't know what you guys did, but with this beta and/or the last
engine update, performance has been greatly improved on the dual Xeon
2.8GHZ / 2.4 Linux kernel machine I'm running this on. Before this,
the server would inexplicably use 99% with a mere 10 players, but a
year or so before that it could handle up to 32 players just fine!

Well Windows performance has been declining at an ever increasing rate

40 player 100 tickrate servers with mods became
32 player 100 tickrate servers with mods which became
32 player 100 tickrate servers without mods which became
32 player 66 tickrate servers without mods which became
18 player 66 tickrate servers because we gave up trying to extract any sort
of performance out of machines.

If we have to drop the tickrate or player numbers any lower we may as well
shut down CSS altogether.
