Deven, email me off list if you want. Ooks Server at zootal dot com.

Comments inline.

Hi Ook, thnk you SO much for showing interest, i am sorry but
that'devinserver.dyndns.org' does not exist anymore i closed it a few days
ago lol,
i created a new one called: devingameserver.dyndns.org on the 26 September
2006, Ook, trust me, ive been there done that with the names of my router,
well first ill give you all the information u asked for:

devingameserver.dyndns.org works. I can ping it. Lousy response, LOL, 500+
millisecon from the Pacific Northwest USA.

I live in South Africa, Western Cape

Wo. Spring must be just around the corner for you. Trees starting to bud
out? Fruit trees blooming yet?

I am 14 years of age

Great, hang in there :-)

My ISP is CYBERSMART

My condolences. Not the best choice for ISPs. Fairly anal
policies. Quick to bill you a lot of money.

My connection type is Broadband/ dsl @ 384kb speed

You aren't going to have very many players with that kind of bandwidth. If
you are lucky you can get 8 players in without lag, any more then that will
be iffy. You really need a tad more for a CS server. I ran a 6 player server
with 256k, and that was my absolute limit.

My upload download bandwidth is 3gigabytes

Be very very carefull not to exceed this. They will bill you through the
nose if you do, and/or cap your service.

"BOX"- not quite sure what u mean but im guessing a ROUTER, i forwarded
ports
27015 both incoming, 1 udp port and one tcp port (both 27015) ive tryed
making
another 2 for outbound but again no luck

You only need to forward 27015 to the box (box means computer) that is
running your half-life server. UDP only. You also might want to disable your
firewall until you get things working, but only if you are behind NAT (you
probably are).

Delete all of your server files. Start from scratch. Download hldsupdatetool
from Valve, look here:

http://support.steampowered.com/downloads/faq/181/hldsupdatetool_HL2_v13.zip

Create directory c:\hl2server. Unzip files into that directory. Don't use
the batch files that come with it. Go to a dos prompt and type:

hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir
c:\hl2server

And see what happens. It should download all the CS Source files you need.

And report back to us here. I'm out of time. Math test Friday, have to
study. I'll be back online tomorrow evening and we can continue (unless
someone else jumps in to help and/or comment)

Look here for more info you have haven't already:

http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=181&p_created=1093570699&p_sid=w-PTCJii&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MyZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PXNyY2Rz&p_li=&p_topview=1

devinserver.dyndns.org does not resolve and according to dyndns it
is not
registered. Are you sure you registered it correctly? Did you
register
devinserver or some other name?

Where do you live (just city and state)?
How old are you (helps to know if we are dealing with someone that
is 13 or
73)?
Who is your ISP?
What is your connection type (dsl/cable/idsl/etc.)?
What is your upload and download bandwidth?
Turn your router over, look on the back/bottom. There will be some
sort of
tag somewhere identifying it, see if you can find some kind of a
model
number. ISPs don't make routers, but many have "branded" routers
made or
them. When you go to the setup screen of the router, it should
identify the
router. See anything? I'm guessing Actiontec or maybe RCA.

Exactly what ports did you forward to the box running your server?

What is your hostname of your server? (type hostname in the
console).

Did the OP ever get his server running? Mine works fine, dedicated
SRCDS
HL1MP server. Source half-life 1 server, and there are almost
always
players
there. Mainly because there are few dedicated SRCDS hl1mp servers
out there,
and the listen servers are very unstable.

As I recall, the steps posted by 1nsane were accurate as far as

Not all servers are created equally. And not all tutorials are
accurate.
The
two "how to's" on Steam's forum for Half Life DM Source are
faulty.
I also
challenge you to go to Google and find a "how to" for this game

hmmm. No name router?

Have you tried letting Counter Strike create the server for you? I'm no
CS expert but I think it should work just like all the rest. There is
an option to "Create a Server". If you take that option can your
friends join? If so, your problem is in your installation of CS src
dedicated server and you may want to reinstall from scratch. If they
can't, I'd start looking at the no name router. Make certain it's setup
a pass thru and isn't doing any fancy ISP stuff like firewall.

If you want zooks to be spawned just set "mp_spawnbazookas" to 1, 0 is
default and they will not spawn. This command go's into your server.cfg
file. ;)

total noob here...I understand the frustration you old pros must feel being
asked the same question for the 10,000 time...however...the internet is more
full of junk than fred sanford's back yard. A clear link like someone
pointed out is just the ticket. If there isn't a good link maybe someone
who's really annoyed with the question should take 10 minutes and start one.

I have a really noob question I'm sure has been asked a million times before
about day of defeat (non-source). I thought after the addition of the
bazooka class the bazooka spawns no longer seemed to appear on the maps.
However, I notice that sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. When I
run my comp as a lan listen server the first time the ground spawn bazookas
appeared on map zalec and subsequently they do not. Is there a simple way
to correct this so they always spawn?

As a real lover of the world war two mod I've got to say that in my opinion
the bazooka class "ruined" (well didn't ruin but "hurt") the gameit's
not team fortress with a rocket man for crying out loudzookas are for
destroying tanks and there aren't any driveable vehicles in dodfun for
objectives...annoying and unrealistic for a primary weapon...just my humble
opinion...rant off..any suggestions?

I'm out in the "boonies" sturmbot doesn't have a zooka class so no ground
spawn is a pain on an objective map. Shrikebot has a zooka class but why do
two or three bots need to be running around with a zooka anyway???

Haven't played dod source yet...anyone working on a bot for it????

RE: [hlds] How to create a server? dod bazooka ground spawns

2006-09-22 Thread Edward Luna
There are Bots, but they just run around shooting randomly. If
something or someone happens to accidentally be in front of their weapon
at the time... they may even hit it.

No source code release = no useful bots.

btw... don't even think about tanks that move.

May I suggest in future when people ask n00bie questions on this list,
that
our initial response should be to send them to the STEAM Forums, as most
of
this stuff has been done to death there, and all this type of crap has

Re: [hlds] How to create a server?

2006-09-21 Thread Dabosman
Ian,

Simply put this at the end of your srcds.exe startup command line:

+ip 208.0.0.1 (replace with whatever EXTERNAL IP address you need there).

srcds.exe does NOT always pick up the external IP ... as someone suggested
.. as in my case ... and I had to specify it like you will probably have
to. They are correct about having to having everything forwarded into the
box though - so I just basically forward all TCP and UDP from port 27000 to
27040 to the box. There are also other pertinent port I believe - so check
the steampowered.com forums for those.

You can verify that the IP address setting took correctly by typing: status
(in console)

It should show what IP it is bound to there.

Let me know how this works for you.

Actually you need to re-read your own message... What you said exactly
was

"I know this is probably a repost, but there are too many posts to
count. Exactly how do you setup a server. I can download the files
needed for the server but then what do I do?"

You never stated you had it running... I know I am nitpicking here...
But people especially those that are technical oriented get frustrated
when people are not specific.

If you had went to:

http://support.steampowered.com/

And searched for the single word "server" you probably would have found
everything you needed to setup a basic server located in the first two
search results.

Ian check my reply, the server will always bind to (one of) the ip address
of the machine it is running on, you need to forward ports on your router so
your router knows where to send the hl packets

I second that motion, the thing is, there's always going be people that
either don't know were to look or think that they can have a person that
already knows everything, give them the answers they seek in two or three
sentences. That's just not the case and we all know that but they don't.

The only real way your going to learn is to do the research for yourself and
that way you'll remember the stuff you learn too. That's why I posted that
link to steampowered.Com.

So in short, joo got some reading to do mang. ;)

I know this is probably a repost, but there are too many posts to count.
Exactly how do you setup a server. I can download the files needed for the
server but then what do I do? Also, how do I get it to be my external IP
addresss instead of my personal one. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes but we were all in that place at one time and if you state for 1 minute
that you weren't, your a liar.
So the best thing to do is link to a tutorial for the nooblets.
http://hlds101.com/hlds101/index.htm
http://steampowered.com search the support area under HLDS
