2009-02-19 Thread Rick Payton
Wait, what?

What does your linux server have to do your client machine not being
able to connect?

Have you tried checking your cables? Maybe you have a bad internet
connection and it's fouling up your steam auth ... Try calling you cable
company and tell them your screen is fuzzy, that should get them out to
check on stuff quicker.

Yes, but prior to the 16th and 18th updates this ran perfectly fine. I

2009-02-19 Thread Tony Paloma
It sounds like all ports in the range that it tries before giving up are all
in use (something like 27015-27025). Even when you are just playing the game
as a normal client, it still tries to allocate server ports.

Try doing:
netstat -a

At a command prompt and see if those ports are in use. If not, it could be a
permissions or software firewall thing maybe? _something_ is preventing the
port from being bound.

Well then apparently I'm living in the past. :D

I've never had to / wanted to run both the server and the client on the
same PC (due to me always having 2 or more computers), and back when I
first got into the whole hlds thing, what I posted below WAS how you
were supposed to it. Sorry, didn't mean to post any misinformation.

Actually, this is the first time I've seen that error. I've always been
able to run a server locally and connect to it for testing until
recently.

Re: [hlds] TF2 Issue Unable to Connect: Engine Error

2009-02-19 Thread Nicholas Hastings
Not true.

I run local dedicated servers all the time, default port (27015) and
never have to change anything in my client to connect to them.

Re: [hlds] TF2 Issue Unable to Connect: Engine Error

2009-02-19 Thread Rick Payton
This has ALWAYS been an issue since day one of hlds/srcds. If you're
going to run a game server from your gaming rig AND connect to it, you
either need to change the port the server runs on (the easy way) or
change the port the client start on (also easy, but I don't know how) -
since both server and client vie for port 27015

I think this stands for ANY game server actually

[hlds] TF2 Issue Unable to Connect: Engine Error

2009-02-19 Thread Daniel Reinhardt
All,

I am unable to connect to any servers, including my own.

I get the following:

Engine Error:

Unable to Allocate any server IP Port.

Windows Vista 64bit
Intel Q6600
4Gigs of RAM

Thanks,
Daniel
