RE: [hlds] Cant get Steam to complete update
I had exactly the same problem. I had it repeatedly & with any game I tried to download (hl2dm and CSSource). The last time it happened, I was downloading HL2DM so I did the follwing in a moment of madness.. 1) I created another directory, so I now had 1 for HL2DM and 1 for CCsrike Source. I named them HL2SERVER and CSSOURCE I moved all files I had managed to download from my last failed HL2DM attempt into directory named HL2SERVER I then copied the HLDSUpdate tool only and mo0ved it to the CSSOURCE directory. I ran it again and let it update in the new directory. I then created a second steam account for the server the aim being to have one for HL2DM and 1 for CSSOURCE. I then went into the HL2SERVER directory, and ran the HLDSupdate tool again, but this time I used the NEW STEAM ACCOUNT DETAILS (edited via CMD)- the download then jumped to the point where I had the last winsock error and continued merrily on its way (why, I have no idea) I then went into the CSSource directory and ran updae - This one worked first time !! I used the original account which failed previously. Finally, I manually moved everything back into one directory, and deleted one copy of the srcds.exe. When I run the server now, I can select either game to run, and I can also run both a HL2 and CSSource server at the same time on different ports. This may be madness, but it worked for me - I tried EVERYTHING for the two weeks prior to this. I deleted the clientregistry.blob file and then ran the update with no problems.
