Out of interest just a thought, there isn't an equivalent like steamip is there? Just wondering as they are on multihomed machines with an ip not accessible via the internet as well as wan ip? Be sure to shutdown all servers first, then start them up again with the steamport set to 1 less than the gameport. I tried -steamport (-1 than gameport, and some others). This actually worked for one that never has before so thought it was looking good (1st one I tried). I have been running vacbeta since a week after release on both of our pubs and generally anytime these guys have connection issues it always seems to be that once they restart steam the issue is resolved. If you see these guys get these sorts of errors and they are regs simply suggest to them to restart steam. artiecs wrote: Alfred We enabled VAC2 beta today. Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information
Alfred i noticed a funny behaviour yesterday with the sv_secure cvar (playin with it before today's announcement). I had set it to 'sv_secure 1' in our server.cfg, and that had no effect. In the server I checked it with 'rcon sv_secure' and it returned a '0'. Then I used the command 'rcon sv_secure 1', and when the map changed the dialog box going into the next map was the VAC2 dialog box, saying that the server was VAC2 protected and that cheating would result in a permanent ban. And -vacbeta is not on our command line. I dunno if it was really running, and next map load after that just showed the normal non-VAC2 dialog box while loading. I repeated this 3 times and saw the same behaviour each time at the next map load (showing VAC2 dialog box), so it's easily reproducable. Not a big deal, but wanted to pass it along anyway cause it seemed that there might be a slight glitch somewhere in the code that you guys may wanna check out. -Artie - Original Message - From: "Alfred Reynolds" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 8:36 PM Subject: RE: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information > sv_secure is a read only var (it tells you the secure status of the > server), setting it won't achieve anything. > > - Alfred > > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mikee > Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 5:01 PM > To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com > Subject: Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information > > Alfred, I thought you also had to enable the CVAR (in autoexec.cfg) > sv_secure 1 in addition to the -vacbeta command line switch. Alfred, Obviously I do not know what the end product of VAC2 will be, but I have one concern at this point in time. Every time a player starts CS:S [HL2.exe], a small file is generated, in the format ~xxx.tmp starting from ~1a.tmp onwards) in C:\Documents and Settings\UserNameHere\Local Settings\Temp and is 60kb in size. This triggers a great deal of firewalls, because a totally new file with a totally unique name is generated every time and wants to access the internet. I have currently some 100+ of these files which contain "c:\steam3main\src\vac2\vac2\Release\vac2.pdb" inside, so I know it is VAC2 generated. When this file is generated and triggers the firewall, the game is then minimised, this also generates the issues known to be caused by ALT-TAB'ing (purple colours, black textures etc). I personally am not going to turn my firewall off. I was going to suggest one file, encrypted and re-written each time CS:S started, but a changed file will just trigger the firewall anyway. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Alfred Reynolds Sent: Friday, 17 June 2005 10:38 AM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: RE: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information The ports cascade from 27014 at the moment, we will be adding an explicit "-steamport" option for HL1 in the next update for HL1 (and Source already supports "-steamport" ). - Alfred -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andrew Armstrong Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 5:10 PM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information Just to confirm whats said below, does this impact running multiple servers off the one host by any chance? RE: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information
You don't need to port forward the VAC2 ports, only the Game server ports (so 27015 and 27014 in your case). Using 27014 and 27013 isn't a good idea however, you could potentially conflict with our services (this shouldn't be the case, but with NAT you never know). As a rule only run servers on ports 27015 and above, 27000 through 27014 is the Valve "reserved" range. - Alfred -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ook Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 7:24 PM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information So, in my case, I have ports 27013 - 27015 UDP forwarded to my server box, an OP4 server on 27015 with vacbeta, a Cold Ice server on 27014 without vacbeta, and nothing on 27013, so I'm guessing this would work without my having to open up any other ports? - Original Message - From: "Alfred Reynolds" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 4:38 PM Subject: RE: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information > The ports cascade from 27014 at the moment, we will be adding an > explicit "-steamport" option for HL1 in the next update for HL1 (and > Source already supports "-steamport" ). > > - Alfred > > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Andrew > Armstrong > Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 5:10 PM > To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com > Subject: Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information > > Just to confirm whats said below, does this impact running multiple > servers off the one host by any chance? Yes that flag will work for OP4. You can specify it on any HL1 server (i.e all mods), it may not actually do the client side checks for all mods at this time however. - Alfred -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of OoksServer Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 4:27 PM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information Alfred, does Vac2 support OP4? Alfred, does Vac2 support OP4? I would be more then happy to turn it on and see how it works on my OP4 server. - Original Message - From: "Alfred Reynolds" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: ; ; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 3:04 PM Subject: [hlds] VAC2 Beta information As most of you know, VAC2 has been in beta for a few weeks. We're nearing release, but we need lots of servers to run the beta right now in order to complete our testing. VAC2 is a significant overhaul of the Valve Anti-Cheat system. Its release is going to be a major event in the community, so your help during the beta will be much appreciated. From experience, we know that the members of this mailing list will provide us with better feedback than we'll be able to get elsewhere. We need as many of you as possible to start running your servers with the VAC2 beta code turned on. Once you've started doing so, please send us any and all trouble reports by reporting them to this list. Instructions: The VAC2 beta functionality is already included in both the Source and HL1 dedicated server, just ensure you have the most recent update by running the hldsupdatetool. In order to turn it on, simply restart your server and add " -vacbeta" to your the command line. We're primarily dealing with connection issues at this point. This means that if you choose to run your server using the VAC2 beta, a small number of users could have trouble connecting to your server. We are particularly interested in hearing about any issues regarding connection problems. Things to watch for: - "No Steam Logon" errors reported by clients. If a user gets this consistently across a couple day period then get them to go to our support site for help. - "steamclient.dll not found, server communication disabled." printed out on startup. For linux users make sure you have at least GLIBC 2.3.2 or above. You also need to allow outbound UDP traffic on port 27014 from your server. If you do have the correct GLIBC version or run under win32 then contact me to debug the problem.
