I must admit it is annoying that clan tag thing, especially as you get no answer when you do apply to be registered. PunkBuster
I have always refused to run PB. For the simple fact of the Manditory clan tag registry system. Now if PB's aim was solely to deffend against cheaters. then fine. I would be behind them seeking Valves support. But as long as they package and slip in other stupid mandatory registration of names/nicks tags or anything NOT RELEATED to cheats. Then i say F*C* them. The only reason Ive ran hl/cs so long is 1) valves incredable support of theyre admins.(thank you eric and all your team) 2) i like cs. But the day someone starts dicktating to me, what names, lang, and behavior i must enforce on my server. is they day i close it and move to a less dracionian game. To Valve. I would be in no extra rush to support a system that isnt dedicated to JUST removing cheats. You dont see admin_mod/halfd etc forceing unwanted opions or registry systems on ppl. And for so long as PB Bundles diferent registration issues, under the guise of cheat prevention. It should be placed low on your priority list. This is not intended to promote an argument. Nor is it meant to bring up the long and hotty debated clan tag reg system debate. Just a statement of opion. As long as PB's focus isnt JUST cheat prevention. It should get no more support then any other mod/developer.
RE: Multiple lan clients, and multicast errors
Are you talking about something like this: client1 : hl.exe +multicastport 27025 client2 : hl.exe +multicastport 27026 client3 : hl.exe +multicastport 27027 and so on... ? > -Original Message- > From: Sysop [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2001 12:37 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Multiple lan clients, and multicast errors > > > > I saw the temp fix go through this list yesterday, and it hasn't been > updated to the archives. Multiple lan clients, and multicast errors
I saw the temp fix go through this list yesterday, and it hasn't been updated to the archives. Can somebody repost that for me, I have users that need this TIA. Revenge is a dish best served Colt...

Re: So long PB, don't let the door hit you on your ass onyourwayout
I suck at PR, I loose my patience way too easily :) (just check my posts on the Admin Mod forum ;) I have no idea on the specifics of money, but I do believe that it wasn't money that stopped HL support. The biggest stumbling block was the lack of help/technical support from VALVe. Without it PBs functionality was reduces (severly in some areas) and Tony just didn't think it was worth continuing "pushing shit up-hill" ;) All this response to the withdrawal of support may allow a solution to appear however. Just to put a good word in for valve, they have always been reasonably helpful with Admin Mod problems (slow sometimes ;) Just look at the new sv_visiblemaxplayers code they added to HL1108. However, when it comes to asking for larger things they can be quite reclusive (like my questions/suggestion for Admin Mod in TF2 ;) - Original Message - From: "Tom Livingston" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2001 8:57 PM Subject: RE: So long PB, don't let the door hit you on your ass onyourwayout > > > From: Alfred [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > > > PB needed access to retrieve certain in game settings from HL (like > the > > brightness level, fov, ) to check for ingame cheats. Much more reasonably explained than what I found on punkbuster's own forums. They should consider trying to convince you to do their PR. While the explanation of additional detection that they wanted to include seems valid, It doesn't address why maintenance of the current code is being scrapped. That is the behavior that makes me feel like an unwitting pawn in a power game. Obviously, it comes down to Tony getting paid for his work. Certainly I would never want to dedicate that kind of time to a programming project where I wasn't getting paid. But then again that was it's genesis, so it couldn't have come as a surprise. It's clear Tony has now set his sites on a higher business peak. That's fine, that's capitalism. But I wonder where the economic problem for HL punkbuster support really lies. If he was seeking a sum of money mostly appropriate for a business, all may be lost. However, if he is only seeking compensation for his personal time, I wouldn't be surprised if a sum of money could be found to allow him to spend 25% of his time maintaining HL punkbuster. He'd be able to spend the rest of the time pursuing his new goals. If he doesn't want to spare the time, why couldn't a part time junior programmer be hired with a similar amount of money? While I understand people normally don't want do discuss financial details in public, if the amount of money expected was reasonable and made public, it would do a lot to get the community on his side. Certainly game hosts, cons, leagues and sponsors could be hit up by the community to contribute if the amount was achievable. Such generosity would likely shame valve into doing the same. Sleeper
