$ chmod u+rx hlds_l_3110_full.bin
$ ./hlds_l_3110_full.bin

This will prompt yout to accept the EULA and then extract the
tarball to the same directory. You can then extract the hlds from
that tarball.

First make the .bin file executable with
chmod +x hlds_l_3110_full.bin
then execute it with
/hlds_l_3110_full.bin

Re: [hlds_linux] newbie support -- Extraction of .bin hlds file on linux....

2002-06-27 Thread Swoogan

make it executable
ie:
chmod 755 hlds_l_3110_full.bin
then run it
./hlds_l_3110_full.bin

a license screen will come up, and then a .tar.gz will be produced. Extract
that and you will have a hlds directory with the server in it.

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong, but the way I see it, as the number
increases, the pingboost gets more aggressive. I believe it's to do with
sleeps during cycles (thus giving cpu to the other processes). The higher
the number the less/shorter the sleeps are.

So pingboost 1 will give quicker response to clients at a minor cpu usage
cost, whereas pingboost 3 will be quite happy gobbling up 90% of an Athlon
XP 1800. You have to test on your server to see whats best (probably not 3
unless you a rich fool. :)
