[hlds_linux] [ot] Call it Admins pain

2002-11-01 Thread Adam 'Starblazer' Romberg
[rant warning]

First off, what the hell, I'm playing in my server... with a couple
friends who are local on my lan. a couple people come in from the
internet.. I'm thinking, ok, cool competition... what do i hear?

lamer: d00d, he hax!!! HAX!!! HAX!!!

so, as typical admin duty, load up hltv (with a random nick), and watch
from a different computer... I'm watching, and thinking, ok, maybe...
and then i see some shots, kills, etc, that are so reminicant of a hack.
*boot*

Alrighty, cool. solved the problem.

NOPE!!! The guy comes back and then goes d00d, $nick hax!!!, well, this
guy who he's crying about, is my *admin* friend on the same server, and
who's 2 feet from me. I can see his computer, I set up his computer..
that computer never leaves the store.

So, i nicely godmode myself, and tell him to cool the fuck down. I then
proceed to inform him that he's right next to me, on the lan. if he didnt
belive me, LOOK AT THE FN PINGS!!! I mean, a 13 ping?!?! with mine being
a 12? DUH I wonder where this guy is.

ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD TOO STUPID TO READ THE MOTD? ARE PEOPLE SO
MORONIC TO NOT SEE HOW NICE IM BEING?!? I MEAN, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

I almost wanted to find out where he is, and like, drive out there and
smack him... (not really, but still..)

I swear, there needs to be a line in the cstrike TOS/EULA/whatever that
says.

RE: [hlds_linux] how to start up wu-ftp

2002-11-01 Thread Eric (Deacon)
A few days ago someone posted how to startup wu-ftp if it was
 installed.

I know you probably already know, but just in case you're not aware,
wu-ftp is notorious for being a Holy Program. I suggest looking into
ProFTP or PureFTP (I use Pure-FTP myself).

One of that valve guys said a couple weeks ago min and max rates were
hard coded to 2 on a lan. So changing that will do nothing. I'm
not sure about the update rates though.

Ouch, betcha he regrets asking that. However I do agree with Deacon, wu is terrible
and pure ftpd is much better and the ftpd I use. Pure can be found here
http://www.pureftpd.org/ or to perhaps answer your original question you could consult
http://www.landfield.com/wu-ftpd/ which is the wu-ftpd resource centre. I don't use
wu so I can't answer your question off the top of my head.

2002-11-01 Thread bje
I love when you go on a random pub server and start owning (i.e.
20-2) or something, and you get kicked 2 seconds later. Then you
re-join said server, and then start owning again and get banned.

I even went so far to find the website of a clan that I noticed
banned me from a random server, emailed someone there complaining
that they banned me. They then emailed back saying they had proof
that I cheated. Later I found out they're a bunch of 12 year olds
with a rich father who provides the gameserver, and the connection.
I think anyone under the age of 18 should not be able to admin a
server nor play the damn game.

Just my .02 cents..

It's a privately owned server. They make up the rules as they see fit.
You're more than welcome to not play there and not be subject to their
arbitrary rules.

Look at it this way: if they attract losers to their server then there are
fewer losers to play on your server. :-)

Hello,

I've just released a new version of PrivatePlayers (P2), my MetaMod plugin
that controls who can play on any Half-Life mod server !

Changes and additions in version 0.40 :
° fixed sometimes bad counting players (sv_timeout workaround for
connections refused by other Metamod plugins)
° fixed multiple MySQL connections when changing maps
° added p2_type 4 : refuse unknown players if there are at least
   (CVar)p2_min known players
° added CVar p2_forcenames, to ensure known players use their known name,
   and protect them (anti-fake)
° added WebMod 0.43 interfacing functions

More information download page :

Ryab asked (w/regards to Private Palyers version 0.40):

what does this do??

With it you can setup a db to enter the ip (I believe it's ip's) of players
that you want to allow to have access to a server. The great thing is that
if there's someone you don't want on your server, they won't get access
unless their details are on the db :)
