[hlds_linux] New Security Modules -November 4

2002-11-04 Thread Eric Smith
*** This only affects Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers. ***

We've updated the public security modules again. These security modules
introduce the wallhack prevention methods we've been working on.

We're interested in hearing about any situations where players are invisible
when they shouldn't be. For example, if there's a location on a map where
someone can stand without being seen. You can send the details directly to
me (mailto:erics@;valvesoftware.com).

Your Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers should update themselves
automatically. Let me know if you have any problems with these security
modules and we'll look into them right away.

Thanks.

there are many ways to get this done ... like using screen etc . but I
just use & at the end of the command to startup the server to put it into
the background .
./hlds_run -game tfc +ip youriphere +maxplayers 20 +map 2fort &

for example

RE: [hlds_linux] Help need For Linux Server

2002-11-04 Thread Bossaller, John
You have to run it as a background process. On the command line that you
are entering ./hlds_run , add a "&" at the end of the
line.

So:
./hlds_run -game tfc +maxplayers 20

Should become:
./hlds_run -game tfc +maxplayers 20 &

The other alternative, is to launch using something like halfd, which will
restart the server when it crashes as well.

Have you tried HEAD (CVS version of horde) its becoming nice and stable
now, and comparing squirrelmail with head, squirrelmail lacks a lot.

Re: [hlds_linux] Half-Life Server Graphing

2002-11-04 Thread James Couzens
Evert,

I am using iptables:

iptables -A INPUT -p udp -d --dport 27015 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp -s --sport 27015 -j ACCEPT

This accounts for MOST hlds traffic. All the other ports used are very
minimal traffic and aren't worth accounting for.

Cheers,

James

Those of you from this list who know me, i'm a stat whore. I just love
stats. Just love the know the numbers :).

Well this weekend has probably been the most active for me, with the release
of Natual Selection. I've been working with Flayra (Charlie) to test
release patches to fix the problems associated with his game. Flayra's big
interest is getting a) NS's CPU useage and b) NS's network use down to
CS/DOD/TFC levels... so I came up with something to help make it easy to
see.

As many of you know MRTG is pretty cool, but I think this blows its socks

And yes, a single HLDS server IS running on two separate CPU's. This is
because of the linux kernel. I'm wondering if w2k/xp kernel will also
allow for this?
