[hlds_linux] [OT] kernel compile

2003-06-22 Thread admin
Oh wow - ok default redhat kernel is like 2.6mb i think. I was able to
recompile mine without alot crap it doesnt need and its now like 760k.

I tried to do a 'mkinitrd' but it said that all the loopback devices are in
use? any ideas?

I have ran several tests with 3.1.1.0 and 3.1.1.1 with 32 players and there
are huge latency difference's. I highly recommend sticking with 3.1.1.0. The
big issue however is no commercial DoD users can play on a 3.1.1.0 server.

Try checking all the sv_allow's and all that relates to downloading and

Also try deleting server's custom.hpk

The hlds list would be more appropriate as it is a winblows server.

Eliminate plugins one by one until you see it fix itself.

[hlds_linux] Spray Stopped working

2003-06-22 Thread Eaglec

I help admin Roob's NS server and it has just recently started acting a
little strangley. Clients seem unable to use their custom sprays.
Not all clients and not the same clients each game and occasionally it's
fine but most of the time all they see is the Half-Life (Y) default instead
of their custom.
The server in Windos 2000 based running 1 mod (NS) 16 players , 4 reserved
the following plugins

01:16:21 Currently loaded plugins:
description stat pend file vers src
load unlod
  [ 1] RUN -unstuck_mm.dllv1.00 ini

 10 plugins, 10 running

Plugin 10 was recent so I tried unloading (from cli) it but it made no
difference

Apart from that nothing much is supposed to have changed. Any clues on where
to look ?

Re: [hlds_linux] P3 550 performing as a 10-user server

2003-06-22 Thread Capriotti
Morten, if you are using FreeBSD, you have to recompila your kernel with
this line :
options HZ=1000

this will make the CPU usage go up a little bit.

Interesting that, using pingboost 1, when the server is empty, the cpu
usage went from 3.x% to 5.x%. But when the server was full, the CPU usage
seemed to be more or less the same.
And, YES !, latency dropped significantly.

Just reminding, this is under FreeBSD 4.8-stable.

thank you Steven Hartland for the tip.

That depends on what version of hlds you use and what pingbooster option.

If you are using 3.1.1.0 there is a great differance between pingbooster
and no pingbooster... at least with pingbooster 3... the latency are down
to 7-9 ms with it on, without it it jumps up aprox 4-5x. (these are my
numbers on my server)

In 3.1.1.1 I did not get the same result, there is no real cpu jumpage as
in *.0 and i did not see any real difference in the latency. perhaps 10 ms
in my setup. I switched back to .0 due to massive critism from my
regulars. they complained about the higher latency, plus some lagging
issues that caused a sertain hit was registered as a miss. I should point
out that I have not tested the latest versions of .1 out just yet. so they
may have fixed some of the issues I stopped when the first 1b was
released.

I can also point out that one of the mayor internet cafes here in sweden,
that have 8 servers up and running.. the ones with .1 is almost always
empty. go figure.

If I was to choose I would go for .0 and pingbooster 3. It will eat a lot
more cpu... but you will end up with a nice server for people to play on.
I have been running 3 servers with .0 without VAC + wwcl on a dual p3 500
with no problem. 1 public 14 players, 1 matchserver 10 player and 1 pub 4
players training maps (ie: awpmap and such)..

If you want to lower the cpu usage, remove VAC and install CD...
