[hlds_linux] WOW... New Kernel (2.6.0.test8.1.64) really performs!!!
WOW... I just installed the new 2.6.0.test8.1.64 kernel from http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/RPMS.kernel/ and I am really impressed by its performance... Basically, I installed the source, did a make oldconfig with a 2.4.20-20.9smp config that I was using and answered a few questions, enabled preemptive kernel and let it compile. No need to set the HZ, cause with the 2.6 kernel its set to 1000 by default. Im running Red Hat 9 now, but did have it running on 7.3. I recommend 9 because there will be less package upgrading that way. Any way, check out these system stats. This was taken while the server had 17 of 18 slots filled on Aztec map. I watched this and grabbed the text while it was at the highest usage. It was only getting to above 12 for a few seconds and then dropping down to below 10 and staying this way. On other maps like dust, it wasnt even getting above 10. Some maps like office, it would get to 11 and 12 again, but only as a spike. I have some other stuff running on the server too, but I thought you would be most interested in the hlds process... Im really impress with this kernel. I think I'll keep it :-D 21:50:42 up 2 days, 1:59, 1 user, load average: 0.28, 0.35, 0.33 110 processes: 108 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU0 states: 0.1% user 3.0% system0.0% nice 0.0% iowait 95.0% idle CPU1 states: 22.0% user 4.0% system0.0% nice 0.0% iowait 80.0% idle Mem: 1034428k av, 1028616k used,5812k free, 0k shrd, 149024k buff 570092k active, 198920k inactive Swap: 1052216k av, 0k used, 1052216k free 373284k cached PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME CPU COMMAND 6167 xx25 0 112M 103M 9868 R12.8 10.2 24:04 1 hlds_amd ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
