RE: [hlds_linux] Failed to connect to any GeneralDirectoryServer
I do that too. Cause otherwise I have to have a crapload of steam accts. Steam wont let you use the same acct more than once or one of em craps out. I dont like getting surprises dropped on me when steam comes out and F*'s everything up. Also - autoupdate allows your users to use 'rcon quit' to restart their servers. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Marcelo Bezerra Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 7:24 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Failed to connect to any GeneralDirectoryServer So you update manualy but uses -autoupdate? what is the point? Steam tries to download a new version because version information probably is stored in ~/.steam/ClientRegistry.blob Just remove the -autoupdate if you are updating with .tgzs :) On Thu, 2004-03-04 at 07:53 -0800, Rock wrote: > -- > [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] > I did DL and use the tar update a few times but when steam checked the ver it always saw it as ver 7 trying to upgrade to 8 anyway. Then error as usual. All of my server use the -autoupdate parameter and would either bail out just trying to verify it was up to date or indefinitly hang trying which would timeout a perfectly updated game untill I manually killed the update process or took the auto off the start script. Which I really hated doing to all my servers jsut to go back and put it back in when the system started acting normal again. Re: AW: [hlds_linux] [OT] Black Lists
> spam has > totally destroyed any reliable communication across the Internet without > using a IM client :( Exactly. If you want reliable communication, use a phone :) SMTP is fucked - the protocol relies on trust and things being done correctly - of which humans are terrible at both, thats why we have spammers. It was intented during a time where the only people using the Internet were universities and scientists. Sending and recieving a message and knowing it will get to it's destination without failure is an essential part of the Internet. I wonder what will replace SMTP. Since I showed my (old-styled) graphs I got alot of mail from persons asking how I did it and if I would share my work. I have reworked it and now feel like it is a bit more mature to be publicly available. Still consider it as beta software. A example graph: http://hemma.hos.joakim.gissberg.nu/~tajson/cs-12h.png If you are interested, you can now grab the tools from my homepage (http://joakim.gissberg.nu/) that is needed to do a graph like that. It is: 1) "Rcon", a tool I made to execute rcon commands remotly and display on local screen. 2) "cs_stats", a bash script for gluing Rcon and RRDtool togheter. You also need RRDtool installed. I am also planing on including some vars in the graph that can be of interest, like CPU model, kernel version, fps_max, sys_ticrate.
