I need to know how to do it IN GAME via console. Enter your rcon password in the console when you're connected: rcon_password password Right now, the only way (at least on Win32) to kick/ban people is to use their full names: rcon kick jackass -- will just kick him rcon banid 0 jackass kick -- will permaban player named jackass and -- then kick him Change the 0 in the above to change the timelimit (in minutes) for the banning. I'm not 100% certain that banning works this way still, or if banning even works at all in SRCDS right now, but that's the way you do it. Other useful stuff: rcon_address your.server.ip -- will allow you to do rcon without connecting. -- follow with rcon_password rcon stat, rcon status -- Both print out lists of users connected, but -- with different formatting. (p.s. sorry if my formatting's munged, I'm confined to webmail today :/) -- Tim ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

It's only the memory.. The CPU is taken whaen kswap tries to swap stuff away to make room for the ever more memory allocations. Is most definately a bug! I'm also getting segfaults in some places.. Definately some odd stuff to do with memory going on. Unfortunately when the server auto starts after segfault it doesn't give me RCON anymore. [hlds_linux] HLDS hangs with pingboost enabled
Hi there, I have a problem running HLDS with pingboost enabled. Whenever I start HLDS with pingboost activated (1,2 or 3), the server will hang after some time, no matter if there are players on the server or if the server is empty. This happens on all 3 of my servers, 2 of which are running kernel 2.4, one running 2.6 (Debian Woody on all of them). All servers are running plain vanilla HLDM games, no mods or plugins installed. Unfortunately I don't know when exactly these problems began to occur, but I guess it was like 2 weeks ago (probably after some HLDS update). Pingboost was working perfectly fine before. The server does not crash (or spit out any debug output for that matter), it just hangs and does not accept any more player connections or console input. Has anyone experienced similar problems and is there any fix available? Hey all. What I did to find my motd.txt was to use slocate. the motd.txt file resides in: /home/$user/cs2src/cstrike (this is my preference) If you have troubles finding your motd.txt do the following: updatedb slocate motd.txt This should find you an accurate location of where motd.txt is in your server. [hlds_linux] copying gcf-files
Hi, Have you tried to copy the steam cache files to another steam installation (for example of a friend). I have no flatrate and just 64 kbit/s bandwidth, so I can't download the files. The copy of the cache files from counter-strike, half-life and some others work, but the copy of counter-strike source does NOT work. I hope, there's a fix because I also really want to play it ;) I did the following: 1. Started Steam, started preloading of cs:s. 2. Steam shutdown. 3. I replaced the three cache files. base source shared.gcf counter-strike source base content.gcf counter-strike source shared content.gcf 4. Started Steam, the start time is longer as usually. 5. It seems that Steam resets the files (0% loaded), but Game installed (without content). any idea? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

[hlds_linux] starting the srcds_i486 in the background
Hi, I am trying to run srcds_i486 as a background process like thus; ./srcds_i486 -game cstrike +ip 82.136.23.33 +map de_dust +maxplayers 20 > ${O_PIPE} < ${I_PIPE} & If I run that same command line without any redirection (with or without the ampersand) it works fine. If I do any redirection, either input or output, the daemon just hangs about doing nothing. My aim is to be able to parse the log file real time and send commands to the daemon from a perl wrapper, so suggesting screen is not a solution. If not, I will have to code an alternative, Cheers, Matt. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

RE: [hlds_linux] Steam Future in Marketing
I wish more software was electronically delivered. It's a PITA to go to the shop and look for it, or order it online and hope you are in when the postman delivers. Bandwidth is cheap, so hopefully we will see reduced costs as well. -Original Message- From: bbrcs [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 18 August 2004 20:37 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [hlds_linux] Steam Future in Marketing This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] I know you can buy CZ through Steam and have it downloaded "right now". Do you think this is going to be the future in software delivery? You go to the store and purchase a CD-Key or you obtain one through some secure site. Then you can pop in your Key at any time and download the media. I guess I found one enterprising young lad that thinks he can do that. Re: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source Beta Release
Don't use the 2.6.x kernels if you want to keep the 1.6/czero server CPU usage down, 2.6.x kernels have HZ=1000 which effectively puts pingboost 3 on. I'd go back to Sarge, and compile 2.4.26 as your kernel. I prefer the new status :) Much more informative. I purposely installed 3.3 on all my machines, and I run either testing or unstable, stable tends to be way too old. If you have ssh access, why not upgrade to testing or unstable? Despite the name "unstable" I've never seen any of my unstable machines crash. Let me know if you aren't sure how to switch to testing/unstable.
