Howdy, is there a way to stop the losing team not being able to have weapons
after each map cap?

RE: [hlds_linux] FPS Cap at 333.44?

2005-10-01 Thread K2
Hmm, not true. I started out running CS:S on a box running w2k3, and I could
get as high as 512fps at start up, and it'd sustain 450-470fps full (24
player, regardless of tickrate).

Now I'm running RHEL4, latest and greatest 2.6.x kernel, and I cant break
the 333fps barrier, and that will get as low as 40-50 fps when full (same
player count). And I am noticing this on DoD:S as well as CS:S. Crazy thing
is tho, the w2k3 box I had was only half as powerful hardware-wise as the
RHEL4 box I run now.

So yeah, I'd like to see some suggestions and/or an explanation as well
please.

RE: [hlds_linux] FPS Cap at 333.44?

2005-10-01 Thread bryan
Are we starting to see coding targeted at WinX servers and less effort being
towards Linux server coding? There has been a slow but steady erosion of
Linux server coding. My original CS server was a mere PII 450, I thought I
had a dream server when I upgraded to dual P3 800's. We just replaced our
Ath 1000 with a P4 2.8 1u rack server. I was not totally impressed with the
performance increase. I wonder if there is some little piece of coding that
is missing, just a simple 1 or 0 someplace.

[hlds_linux] CS:S: Clipping on port/assault/inferno

2005-10-01 Thread Bart King
Hi all,

I'd like to ask for opinions on clipping problems with the three more recent
maps provided by Valve/Turtle Rock for CS:S, these being de_port, cs_assault
and de_inferno.

Whenever I put these three maps (and ONLY these three maps, others are fine)
on my server, odd behaviour is observed - most notably on de_port and
cs_assault, in that on port you can walk through the cargo crates (and shoot
from inside them, essentially by being invisible), and on assault, you fall
through the floors when climbing stairs.

I have tried several avenues of thought to try and fix this problem. These
are:

 - Adjusting tickrate from 33 to 66 to 100 and back;
 - Changing maxplayers to small and large numbers;
 - Enabling and disabling sv_turbophysics;
 - Removing all add-ons and adding them back one by one;
 - Using -verify_all with Steam, in case something was corrupt;

And the most extreme was to purchase an entirely new server, reinstall Linux
and try again.

All these methods resulted in no change - the clipping was still persistent.

However, the odd thing is that if I rsync the entire installation to a
completely different server (running the exact same OS), the clipping no
longer occurs - this includes using the same cfg files (game.cfg,
server.cfg, etc) from the main server.

Below is what /proc/cpuinfo is on the main server, and also what is in
server.cfg. If anyone can provide some clues, I would be most grateful.
I'm not convinced it is hardware related...

Cheers,

Bart

Oh the server starts at 333 just fine. However, get 12 people on it during a
scrim and it will go 30-50fps until people start leaving. Again, the
CPU never
seems to go higher than 80% so I doubt that is a limiting factor.

I would like to know why anyone would really need to play at 333fps? I
don't think your monitor can even refresh that fast?

Oh the server starts at 333 just fine. However, get 12 people on it during
a
scrim and it will go 30-50fps until people start leaving. Again, the
CPU never
seems to go higher than 80% so I doubt that is a limiting factor.

Afaik Windows is capped at 500 without some changes, and Linux capped at
333
without some changes which I think is down to some relation with the
kernel
 frequency.
Haven't found anyone who's complained on a 333fps server as long as its a
steady 333 and not dropping, same with 500, the key is stable fps at a
 reasonable high setting.

Hmm, not true. I started out running CS:S on a box running w2k3, and I
  could
get as high as 512fps at start up, and it'd sustain 450-470fps full (24
  player, regardless of tickrate).

Now I'm running RHEL4, latest and greatest 2.6.x kernel, and I cant
 break
the 333fps barrier, and that will get as low as 40-50 fps when full
 (same
player count). And I am noticing this on DoD:S as well as CS:S. Crazy
  thing
is tho, the w2k3 box I had was only half as powerful hardware-wise as
 the
  RHEL4 box I run now.

So yeah, I'd like to see some suggestions and/or an explanation as well
  please.

Re: [hlds_linux] FPS Cap at 333.44?

2005-10-01 Thread hlds

I don't have the figure offhand but it was nothing abnormal at all. This
machine runs no other services so it is strictly just dedicated to running a
dods private and that only. In other words, there are no other processes that
could be hindering it. Aside from giving you the actual load numbers, there's
not much more I can tell you. I've used this box for quite some time, mostly
dod 1.3 privates/hltvs without any problems with fps or cpu usage. I'm
just at
a loss at understanding this...

Whats the load out of interest (not cpu %age, the load on top right of top
or displayed in uptime) when the server is dropping fps, are there any other
processes that show high cpu at the same time or anything in top?

[hlds_linux] Autogenerate .RES files?

2005-10-01 Thread Ben Kennish

Hi there,

I'd like to try out some custom maps on my HL2 DM server but they come
in a map pack and I believe I need to create .res files for each map...
is there someway I can autogenerate .res files from the map file.

BTW, I also have sv_downloadurl set and am hosting the files on another
webserver.

Any tips / advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

For the record I can't even get the ./steam command to run to make sure I
have all the updated files? Any ideas?

There is resgen. This windows commandline software thats pretty cool. You do
it on your own computer and just take the rest files to your server's map
folder.

 Subject: [hlds_linux] Autogenerate .RES files?

Resgen doesnt work for source servers, most of the custom maps about for dod
source at the moment dont need res files as everything is in the bsp. I
converted dm_runoff and Tower_B2 to DoD by renaming the spawn point entity and
they work fine for people... well apart from not being able to climb ladders
and the bushes look a bit odd.

On the steam forum a guy did write a script which basically lists all the
contents of specific folders and enclosed them in the correct {} combinations
to use as a res file but afaik you dont need it for any currently available dod
source custom map.
