Re: [hlds_linux] Source Dedicated server update released

I do think so, cause our server crashes on it. Alfred, you said it was
nothing to worry about, but our servers crash on it. So i think this is a
problem. Exactly after that error i get a segmentation fault...

Fair warning, the update seems to have broken Source:Meta Mod. If you're
using any smm plugins (i.e. Mani for metamod), you may be best waiting for
an update from them, as well.

[hlds_linux] Source Dedicated server update released

2006-05-24 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update to the Source Dedicated server. Run the
hldsupdatetool to get this update. The update applies to Counter-Strike:
Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and any Source
Mod. The update is optional but recommended.

This update has several SourceTV improvements and general engine fixes,
more details can be found here:

RE: [hlds_linux] Re: Source Engine Beta *Alfred*

2006-05-24 Thread Alfred Reynolds
The first error is because your binaries are out of sync with each
other. Run the hldsupdatetool again with the "-verify_all" flag to make
sure everything updated, if you still have the problem check you don't
have one of the game libraries in your path by mistake.

The second messages you can ignore.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I tried the beta on 2 counterstrike servers. One server failed to even start
with this error:

Failed to open bin/dedicated_i686.so (bin/dedicated_i686.so: undefined
symbol: CommandLine_Tier0)

On another machine it started but with these errors during initialisation:

L 05/24/2006 - 22:42:22: server cvars end

Error: Material "halflife/+0~fifties_lgt2" : proxy "ToggleTexture" not
found!

Error: Material "halflife/+a~fifties_lgt2" : proxy "ToggleTexture" not
found!

..

couldn't exec skill2.cfg

Executing dedicated server config file

Error: Material "sprites/bubble" : proxy "AnimatedTexture" not found!

Error: Material "models/error/new light1" : proxy "Sine" not found!

cheers guys for all the tips. I tried all the programs out but they weren't a
patch on hlsw. so i did some testing with wine 0.9.13 and hlsw 1.0.0.49 and
it works like a charm. I have to thank the wine support team for some help
they gave me. It works so well in fact that i submitted a working app report
to the wine app db for review.

So Thank you again everyone and if you wanna try out hlsw give it ago.

Hi there,
I got a problem with the linux hlds:
I'm try to setup this thing for some months now,
but it doesn't work.

I setuped serval linux servers and windows hlds until now,
but can't solve that problem.

My server is an old AMD K6 400 Mhz with 256 mb Ram.
(on a Gigabyte GA5 AX Board).

Server should only be for an small amount of people, (maybe 4 or so) and be

used for counterstrike or underworld.

The Problem is, that the hlds always crashes:

Console initialized.
scandir failed:/GAMES/hlds/./platform/SAVE
Protocol version 47
Exe version 1.1.2.5/Stdio (cstrike)
Exe build: 20:06:04 Mar 7 2006 (3421)
STEAM Auth Server
couldn't exec language.cfg
Server IP address
scandir failed:/GAMES/hlds/./platform/SAVE
./hlds_run: line 342: 5325 Illegal instruction (core dumped) $HL_CMD
Add "-debug" to the ./hlds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help

with solving this problem

Wed May 24 12:11:51 UTC 2006: Server restart in 10 seconds
Wed May 24 12:12:01 UTC 2006: Server Quit

Because of the servers os is eisfair, and this uses an old glibc, we had to

use an chroot with a newer glibc to set this thing up, but on the same hand, I
can't build an gdb at the moment there.

The thing is, the server does crash as you see.
But if I connect the hdd and everything to a newer Athlon 1333,
and start things as I did on the old server, everything runs fine!

So I think, that the only possible error, is one in the programming of the

hlds, in fact, the AMD K6 support looks some kind broken.

So, could someone gimme a hand and help me?

Maybe fix that?

Well, I also tried the hlds_amd, and hlds_i486 and so on, doesn't change

anything.

Greetings
Nico

CS1.6 can be played with Wine, but it is pretty crappy

as a word from experience, using OSS instead of alsa

Re: [hlds_linux] monitoring tools

2006-05-24 Thread Bart van den Heuvel
I don't know about a cs client with the same capabilities of a windows
steam client. But I have a thing for monitoring...

Some time ago i found something (created in C by someone else) to do rcon
commands from the linux prompt. I hooked it up with MRTG so i could graph
it out. Done so for FPS and nr of players bots including.

It's still on my site: http://www.zokahn.com
directly to download: http://www.zokahn.com/filemgmt/singlefile.php?lid=25

Re: [hlds_linux] *Alfred* Very high CPU usage since HLDS Engine upgrade 35

2006-05-24 Thread Mike Noordermeer

Hi,

First of all, thanks for the reply Alfred.

Well, the problems are quite vague here. I'm not seeing really high CPU
usage numbers, except for on some servers. I do see some increased
instability and a less stable serverside FPS.

Currently we're using a x86_64 kernels on all our boxes, mostly 2.6.15
or 2.6.16, and running the hlds in 32 bit mode through multilib. (Btw,
the reason for this choice was the better performance of the 64 bit
hlds) OS is either Gentoo (old versions, 2004.3/2005.0) or Ubuntu 5.10.
I also recently updated a box to Ubuntu 6.06 Beta, but that didn't help
anything. All boxes are dual processor, some are dual core too,
processes aren't locked to a specific processor (and that's not
something I consider a solution either, since I don't want to lock the
processes). None of the boxes are using PowerNow/Cool&Quiet or w/e.

I'll try to plan some maintenance to switch to a 32 bit OS on some
machines, we'll see if that helps.

No probs with the plug. qstats sounds interesting. one ohter thing that has
been of interest to me is a while ago i seem to remember the cs client being
on linux (i'm talking 1.5./1.6 pre steam). Am i correct? and if so where can
i obtain a copy?

[hlds_linux] Server crashes, all the time

2006-05-24 Thread Nico Maas
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi there,
I got a problem with the linux hlds:
I'm try to setup this thing for some months now,
but it doesn't work.

I setuped serval linux servers and windows hlds until now,
but can't solve that problem.

My server is an old AMD K6 400 Mhz with 256 mb Ram.
(on a Gigabyte GA5 AX Board).

Server should only be for an small amount of people, (maybe 4 or so) and be
used for counterstrike or underworld.

The Problem is, that the hlds always crashes:

Console initialized.
scandir failed:/GAMES/hlds/./platform/SAVE
Protocol version 47
Exe version 1.1.2.5/Stdio (cstrike)
Exe build: 20:06:04 Mar 7 2006 (3421)
STEAM Auth Server
couldn't exec language.cfg
Server IP address
scandir failed:/GAMES/hlds/./platform/SAVE
./hlds_run: line 342: 5325 Illegal instruction (core dumped) $HL_CMD
Add "-debug" to the ./hlds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help
with solving this problem
Wed May 24 12:11:51 UTC 2006: Server restart in 10 seconds
Wed May 24 12:12:01 UTC 2006: Server Quit

Because of the servers os is eisfair, and this uses an old glibc, we had to use
an chroot with a newer glibc to set this thing up, but on the same hand, I
can't build an gdb at the moment there.

Well, I also tried the hlds_amd, and hlds_i486 and so on, doesn't change
anything.

Greetings
Nico

We experienced the same cpu issues on p4 2.8Ghz boxes with 1-2Gb of ram
running Fedora Core 4.

I fixed the problems by taking them offline!
