[hlds_linux] Anyway to handle many players?
Hello I am trying to figure out how to get my server to handle the many players that visit my servers each day. I have a big 40 slots deathmatch-server and a 30 slots rpg-server. Before the CS:S update, the servers used to run just fine, but after, im getting huge lagspikes and FPS-drops. I have been looking at the CPU-usage and load, but nothing indicates that my server is overloaded. My load is even at 0.60 when the Deathmatch is full. Im using the vanilla ubuntu 9.10 x64 kernel, but i have used 2.6.32- ck2... Anyone here that knows why this is happening and maybe how i could resolve this issue? Thanks ./vRod ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Re: [hlds_linux] Anyway to handle many players?
Mystery lag spikes without actual CPU spikes and only a moderate amount of HD activity? Sounds about standard. While our group hasn't completely ruled out HD stalls, I've been thinking it is either some a slow synchronous network activity or some sort of memory management churning the time. 2010/8/9 Björn GRYZOR Rohlén bjorn.roh...@safehex.se Welcome to the TF2:ers world. Would adjusting your kernel with these settings: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=486424 maybe help you out? It will require a reboot, but has helped in the past for me. Also ensuring that you have CPU affinity set with increased priority and the like... -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Kevin b er Sent: Monday, August 09, 2010 10:58 AM To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Anyway to handle many players? Re: [hlds_linux] Anyway to handle many players?
Load average tells you nothing really. Look at the real cpu usages at top or htop on the machine. If you get over 85% usage, then tickrate starts to drop and the spikes you descrived may occur. since you run DM-server, it's even more consuming than the regular CSS one. -ics 9.8.2010 17:35, Christoffer Pedersen kirjoitti: Hello I am trying to figure out how to get my server to handle the many players that visit my servers each day. You could try reducing HZ from 1000 to 100 to reduce overhead on certain drivers etc. But, as others have stated, the new engine consumes a large amount of CPU. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

[hlds_linux] SRCTV
Ok, I know that you have to use tv_enable to enable SRCTV, then change maps. Even by putting the setting into the server.cfg you still have to change maps to enable the SRCTV. I tried to add the settings into the autoexec, but that doesn't seem to work at all and you can't put in a changelevel into the server.cfg, since that creates a loop. Is/how is it possible to enable SRCTV on server start without having to do an additional map change. Customers can't seem to remember they have to change maps for it to work. They want to start the server and see the SRCTV in there. Sorry, I said autoexec, but meant the autoexec.cfg. I did try it there, I see the slot is added, but still the SRCTV does not auto join until the next map change. Re: [hlds_linux] SRCTV
Add it to the command-line (works for me and CS:S servers at least) +tv_enable 1 +tv_port 26015 Ryan Lewis r...@omgwtflol.org On 9 August 2010 23:00, Xavier Kerestesy xav...@kerestesy.com wrote: Sorry, I said autoexec, but meant the autoexec.cfg. I'm running multiple servers off the same file set so each gets their own custom server config like that. The config is executed before the first map is loaded so TV is there instantly. Nice thing about this is, it works the same way for all servers, so some can have TV and some don't, depending on what they actually do in their config file. Re: [hlds_linux] SRCTV
Apparently the issue wasn't that it wasn't working, it was that we didn't see the TV in the server. All is good. Thank you everyone! When you enable it through command line or autoexec.cfg it is enabled, you just don't see the instance in the server.
