Re: [hlds_linux] auto updates

2010-08-24 Thread Nephyrin Zey
For nemrun, there's "-steamdir", the path to steam, and -srvdir which
is the path to the server relative to steam (what is passed to ./steam's
-dir, from steam's working directory*).

If your setup is:
/myservers/steam
/myservers/left4dead2/srcds_linux
/myservers/left4dead2/left4dead2/steam.inf
/myservers/left4dead2/nemrun

The command line, from nemrun's folder as the working dir, would be
"-steamdir .. -srvdir ."

Note that even when its working properly there are two left4dead2 folders.
Alternately, you could just do "-steamdir /myservers -srvdir /myservers"
and avoid confusion.

Another example:
/myservers/steam
/myservers/l4d2/left4dead2/srcds_linux
/myservers/l4d2/left4dead2/left4dead2/steam.inf
/myservers/l4d2/left4dead2/nemrun

would be "-steamdir ../.. -srvdir l4d2"
or
-steamdir /myservers
-srvdir /myservers/l4d2

*Changing to steam's working directory to run it was necessary before
due to the test1/2/3.so files it used for some reason - this could
probably be changed now

All,

I know it has been a hot discussion the auto update, I've read through
most.
So I thought I would be wise and use nemrun for this (as given some time
ago)

Anyhow, with l4d2 it constantly seems to update and goes for paths like
/left4dead2/left4dead2/left4dead2/

Even if you say steam update -dir . then it will still create a
/left4dead2/leftdead2/ (which is normal to me)

So, does anybody has a correct "structure" for the directorys with the
commandlines used for nemrun and the autoupdater screen with the location
of
where those files go?

So after all, the auto update works fine, but just in the wrong directory,
no matter what I try.. so that's why I ask, to double check.

Thanks,
   Eric

Re: [hlds_linux] IP Spoofing rcon hacker

2010-08-24 Thread Nephyrin Zey
Note that 'banning *for rcon hacking attempts*' is just a retarded
phrase, it just means they used the wrong password too many times. If
you have any kind of sane rcon password, 15 attempts per day is not
going to compromise your password anytime this century. RCON uses your
server's port (27015 by default) via TCP. All other game comms are UDP,
so if you whitelist TCP to that port it wont have any ill effects. I
should also note that spoofing one's IP via two way TCP communication is
not trivial, and they probably just switched to a different IP.

Re: [hlds_linux] HLDS still have serverlist problems with BETA

2010-08-24 Thread Marlon Almeida | CGBR
Hey Chris,

that serverlist (find server) problem is getting old and they don’t fix it.
I guess they don’t care about HL1 anymore.
Some people say that if you use sv_region 255 it'll show at serverlist, I
tried that a while ago, worked for some gameservers but these days I don’t
see them. Btw, I am using build 4617.

 Atenciosamente,

Assunto: [hlds_linux] HLDS still have serverlist problems with BETA

Okey, here I am again and I'm sorry. I wrote a few weeks ago about the
serverlist (1.6). The new beta had a bug and the servers didn't show in
STEAM serverbrowser. I thought it was fixed, but today i realize that its
not.

The bug is now that the servers do not show in the list when i tick the box
"has users playing". I am comparing with a old HLDS and the bug only occur
in the new HLBeta (during the test i have one player on the server). The
thing is that the serverlist is working like one of ten updates... So its
kinda random..

Jason Im sorry that i have to bother you again with this, but its really bad
for us and our publicservers so i hope you can take the time to fix this
asap. The reason that i didn't see the problem before is that we are still
running the old HLDS and i tried to upgrade one server today.

Re: [hlds_linux] IP Spoofing rcon hacker

2010-08-24 Thread edman747
Sad but true they do not have to be playing on a server to send rcon
commands.

I wrote a powershell script to monitor my server for frozen or crashed maps.
It pings the server every 30 seconds and request info from hlds. If HLDS
does not respond to the ping the script will kill HLDS and (optionally)
restart it on the last map played. It can be used to send rcon commands!

Another program that can be used to send rcon commands is HLSW, I use it
when I want to test a few maps.

Not sure what you can do to block the hackers, unless rcon commands arrive
on a specific port.
Then on your servers router you could allow inbound connections to that
port only from a specific IP (yours, if you are doing remote admin).

Or, disable rcon. With rcon_password "" in server.cfg

[hlds_linux] IP Spoofing rcon hacker

2010-08-24 Thread pat w
Hi,

I've already posted my problem on the srcds forums but I thought it might
get
more feedback from the mailing list here. Basically what I have here is a
repeat
offender trying to hack my server via the console rcon. I've banned them
with

addip 0 210.51.45.37

as well as

iptables -A INPUT -s 210.51.45.37 -j DROP

However upon waking up in the morning and checking my console it appears
they
are still at it every day for about 15 attempts --

Banning 210.51.45.37 for rcon hacking attempts
(repeated about fifteen times each day)

I've not noticed any active connections to my server (players or otherwise)
when I
notice these reports. How is it they can attempt to hack my rcon without
even being
on my server at the time? Is there a way to find out who is doing this and
ban them
entirely, or will they just spoof their IP again?

Thanks!
