Uhm, I guess because Halloween is the holiday that people dress in costumes?

Major updates usually arrive on Thursdays, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Besides, why wouldn't the Misc update be rolled into the Halloween
update...?

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 - Ignored by Master Server

2011-10-11 Thread Thibaud Van Hissenhoven
Hey,

Thanks for the replies,
the iptables tip brought me to installing wireshark on both systems and with
"tshark -f udp port 27015" i found out that I had only outgoing
communication on the affected server and in/out on a functional server.
So I checked the entire path on network level and tried the following
things:

   - iptables -F on affected system and router: didn't solve the issue
   - changed NIC on affected system (different MAC address): didn't solve
   the issue
   - out of options I checked the hardware differences between both the
working and non-working systems and noticed that they had a different type
of NIC. Since both systems are running in VMware I noticed in vSphere that
the network adapters of the other systems were E1000, while the affected had
an VMXNET3 adapter. When I changed the VMXNET3 to an E1000 adapter and
rebooted, I suddenly got bidirectional communication!

So it was a long stretch and it took me almost six weeks to find the
solution, but finally got it. :) So if you're running virtualized servers,
make sure you use the E1000 NIC type, even when you have VMware tools
installed!
