Re: [hlds_linux] Mandatory DoD:s and HL2:DM updates released

2012-09-24 Thread Marc.B
Eric,

There is a issue with the last update.

First, if the steam_appid.txt file do not exist, it will create one that is
not working (at least on linux Debian). Example for DOD:S:
cat -e steam_appid.txt
300$
^@

there is ^@ that should be removed.

Another major problem is:
Since a few updates ago, a steam_appid.txt is required to make the game
work. Until the last update, you could put any steam appid (like TF2) and
make all game running with that ID (TF2, HL2MP, DOD).
Now, since the last update, it has to be the app id of the game you start
or you will get a steam validation reject The problem is that this
steam_app.id file is located in the orangebox directory, and if you switch
from DOD:S to TF2, you now need to update that file, which is really a pain
and boring.
Can we not move that file into the game directory instead like
orangebox/tf2/steam_appid.txt, orangebox/dod/steam_appid.txt as this file
is not related to the engine but the game / mod ?

Of course, it's not hard to script a patch at our level that will rewrite
the file depending the game started, but I guess this would still be a
problem for other people.

Cheers,

Marc.

Hi
Is there any known issues with HL2MP/DM after the latest update?
Mine does not load the map. Works fine if I doesn't specify the +map thing
though.

I removed everything in srcds_hl2mp/orangebox/bin and
srcds_hl2mp/orangebox/hl2mp/bin on HL2MP then I ran a -verify_all and now it
seems to be working.

[hlds_linux] segfault when starting hlds

2012-09-24 Thread Ook

I have a script:

cd /home/gb1
./hlds_run -game gearbox +ip 10.0.0.10 -port 27015

If I run this, it works fine sometimes, but other times I get a segfault:

L 09/24/2012 - 12:52:29: [META] ini: Begin reading plugins list:
/mnt/sdb1/gb1/gearbox/addons/metamod/plugins.ini
L 09/24/2012 - 12:52:29: [META] ini: Read plugin config for:
admin_mm_i386.so

Uploading dump (in-process) [proxy '']
/tmp/dumps/crash_20120924125229_1.dmp
success = yes
response: CrashID=bp-70fdd71a-4ed3-4b29-8fc4-d4d842120924
./hlds_run: line 321: 13064 Segmentation fault $HL_CMD

If I disable plugins, it does not do this. Before you go on about the
plugins, I have had this config for a very long time and it has always
worked fine. Why would it now start to randomly segfault? Was there a
recent update that could be causing this? I have two separate hlds
installs, and both of them started doing it at the same time.

Re: [hlds_linux] segfault when starting hlds

2012-09-24 Thread doc
Well if there is a problem loading the metamod plugins list then you might
have a problem with metamod, or the plugins.

This does not happen with plugins disabled so you've narrowed down your
problem.

I'd say update metamod or go see if anyone on your plugin-in-question's
forums have anything new to add about recent updates.
