The exploit works on all source based games according to Garry.

 If your clients are complaining about *cough* spam or similar through
 Steam chat, this is what's causing it. It may be wise to just completely
 kill your server until the Facepunch folks release an update to fix this
 (even though it's 3 AM in the UK), as it's rumored that even if rcon/client
 uploads are disabled, it'll still work.

[hlds_linux] Unannounced TF2 update? or something else going-on?

2014-04-19 Thread Weasels Lair
I don't actually see any announcement in TF2 update page about an update.
 But, my Steam client today said that it needed to download and install a
TF2 update. So, I let that commence, and went to check my TF2 servers.

On the server side, it looked like there was about ~100-MB of stuff to
download, but it errored-out. Then, I noticed the client-side update
errored-out also.

I ran the update on the server-side again, and this time it said Success!
App '232250' already up to date. - as if there was no longer any mystery
~100-MB update? Thankfully, I didn't run this against my production
servers yet - just a test instance.

The client-side update keeps cycling between Updating and Queued like
repeatedly in a way I have not seen before.

I am hoping this is not a repeat of what happened to Counter-Strike the
other day - or anything remotely similar?

Re: [hlds_linux] Unannounced TF2 update? or something else going-on?

2014-04-19 Thread Frank
I ran a check on one server - just validated everything with no update so
not sure what you saw but the likely hood of Valve releasing an update to
TF2 on a weekend let alone Easter Weekend is about the same as me getting
struck by lightning several times in 1 day.

Re: [hlds_linux] [hlds] Unannounced TF2 update? or something else going-on?

2014-04-19 Thread Weasels Lair
Actually, I think something DID come down during that initial update on the
server-side I had attempted.

On my *test* TF2 server install (not Beta just another copy of TF2),
where I ran that update earlier today (which errored-out), the steam.inf
file contains:

PatchVersion=2177902
ClientVersion=2177902
ServerVersion=2191812 === With mystery update
ProductName=tf
appID=440

On my *production* TF2 servers, which I have not tried to update today, the
steam.info file contains:

PatchVersion=2177902
ClientVersion=2177902
ServerVersion=2177902 === Without mystery update
ProductName=tf
appID=440

So, (presumably) there was at least some change of some kind checked-in
that incremented the ServerVersion (2191812 as opposed to 2177902).

 the past too, so those odds are moot.

Yea, I am probably just a little paranoid after the Counter-Strike issues
earlier in the week.
