If you forget to put "-beta preload" on the command line then you will
not get the preload, so don't forget it.

Presumably when the client is released we just need to do a normal
update without the -beta preload in order to get the remaining files
(the binaries presumably)?

In answer to my own post (which hasn't appeared yet so can't reply

server.cfg on the command line - after removing this it's happy

Michael McKoy wrote:
My point has never been that there is a technical reason you couldn't use
any port you want. My point was simply that most people, though in
particular game server providers, traditionally use ports starting at
27015 and up. As another person posted to the list, they had over 90
customers on port 27030. VAC2 has disrupted their business and forced them
to move these customers.
A bunch of you seem hell bent on bashing me for a bad choice of words in
my first post, which I tried to correct, while ignoring the issue I tried
to get addressed:
VAC2 binds itself to 0.0.0.0:27030 and there's no way for us to change
that, and it has affected many people's server setups. It should obey the
-ip parameter, and perhaps even a -vac2port parameter.
This has caused problems as well for GSPs that have hlds and srcds on
the same box, where the srcds has started binding port 27030 when it was
being used for an hlds server - it now means that they have to make sure
that hlds is started BEFORE srcds...

Re: [hlds_linux] Steam masters-servers dont list all servers ?

2004-06-29 Thread Alex Brett
You do not appear to have your sv_region parameter set (it is appearing
in HLSW as 255 which is the code for 'World', i.e. undefined). I think
the region code you want is 3 which is Europe (seeing as how your
servers appear to be in France).

Hi,
I would really apreciate help, to solve this strange problem:
I'm looking at the steam server list since several days, and I can't
find _any_ of the 30 steam servers I host.
I use steam client, or kquery tool, to get the server list from steam
master servers, without any filters.
Here are some of the servers not listed:
213.186.52.163:27018
213.186.52.163:27020
213.186.52.164:27024
213.186.52.165:27015
213.186.52.167:27016
Does anyone have an idea ?
Thanks

Re: [hlds_linux] HLTV version problem

2004-06-01 Thread Alex Brett
Does the server you are trying to connect the HLTV to have
sv_downloadurl enabled?
I ask this because I know that HLTV has a problem connecting to those
(or at least did, I don't know if it's been fixed or not yet), and I am
guessing this might be the error message that appears.
Rik van Ballegooijen wrote:
What is causing this? and more important: what solves it?
I just used a HLTV to record a match (TFC) without any problems. Both
HLDS and HLTV running on the same machine (Linux) and completely up to
date.
Maarten

I know, that's the weird thing. There are hundreds of hltv servers out there,
and they _do_ work. But yet i can't get it to work, while it did work for
years. Reinstalling from scratch, deleting ~/.steam, i've tried everything i
could think of without any improvement. So i tried this list as a last resort.
Any suggestion is welcome.

Re: [hlds_linux] download rates

2004-04-19 Thread Alex Brett
It is probably because the server you were on where it downlaoded faster
is using sv_downloadurl and a web server to serve up the files. For
more information on how to use it there is some info here or just do a
web search:

As posted on the Statsme forums almost a year ago (April 18th, 2003):

"2.7.x is not [affected by VSA0303]. 2.6.4 is probably [affected], but I
have
no specific instances of proof (and no longer have the 2.6.4 source code to
look at).
Keep in mind that this exploit requires rcon control to begin with, which
greatly limits the true exposure this issue creates."

Thanks for posting about it though, I understand why you did it, void.at
didn't include a date, nor did they update it to reflect the fix in the
2.7.x
versions ...

Actually, its been 5 updates in 5 days which is even better, at last
there seems to be a bit of focus on anti-cheat which is definately a
good thing as cheaters just ruin the game for all the other players -
keep going with the updates!

Once again, VAC has been updated.

* More cheat detections added.

I would also like to reiterate that cheating is a violation of Valve's
standard End User License Agreement.

Re: [hlds_linux] sv_downloadurl & HLTV

2004-04-04 Thread Alex Brett
It's possible that it isn't him that is infected. If anybody has both
his e-mail address, and this list's email address in their address book,
and gets hit by one of the many worms around, then it could quite
feasibly send out an e-mail to this list using his address as a forged
from address. This seems even more likely since his legitimate e-mail
has a note at the bottom saying sent through IMP (a webmail client that
can't get infected).

I'm running metamodx (normal metamod just caused a seg fault) and normal
admin mod seems to work with it. It is working perfectly well in game, I
can do everything I could do with it in CS 1.6 - just the messages are
appearing in the console whenever hlsw connects.
I just checked, and without adminmod there were 111 cvars, with admin
mod i am seeing 120 - could it be that 120 is the limit, and that admin
mod happens to be loading at least 9 cvars in and therefore is reaching
the limit? Has anybody got a server using more than 120 cvars in normal
counter-strike and not getting that message in the log?

[hlds_linux] SZ_GetSpace in czero

2004-03-29 Thread Alex Brett
I've started up a condition zero dedicated server on a linux machine,
and whilst I have HLSW monitoring it, I see this keep appearing in the
console:
SZ_GetSpace: overflow on SVC_RuleInfo

From what I can find on the net, I gather it is due to having too many
cvars, I'm only running stock czero with adminmod at the moment but
there are all these new bot cvars that have come in with czero - so is
there any way to reduce the amount of cvars to get rid of this message
as it is annoying me (although not causing any problems as far as I can
tell as the server seems to run with a nice ping etc).
Thanks in advance!
