Hey, you're not too far off there. Aren't all the new server admins about 12 years of
age?
:)

Re: [hlds_linux] hlds_l benefits of AMD 512kB cache? offtopic - Hard Drive

2004-06-15 Thread Donald Holl
I forgot to mention the 36.7 GB, it's a bit cheaper than the 74GB
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=40

...and use pricewatch.com if you custom build, save money.

Re: [hlds_linux] hlds_l benefits of AMD 512kB cache?

2004-06-15 Thread Donald Holl
I would go for the most cache, and in my opinion for game servers 512KB should be a
minimum. There are some P4 models with 1MB that you can get for not much more. I just
priced a DELL P4 2.8Ghz with 1MB cache, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD for $1,008.

I would go for a 1MB cache processor if it were me or for an AMD setup I'd use Dual
Athlon MP 2800+ Barton core (512KB cache). It wouldn't hurt to get a blazing fast SATA
hard drive either and cheaper prices than SCSI. Check out the 10,000 RPM 74GB drive
from Western Digital http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=65

So to answer your question, do not settle for less than 512KB of cache.

Just a thought, what is the latest/last version of 1.5? Mine is dated:
Exe build: 22:35:19 Apr 29 2003 (2378), and I've downloaded
hlds_l_3111d_update, which is July 29, 2003 (I've not yet installed it).
Could updating it help??
