[hlds_linux] DOD:Source Dedicated Linux Server 'HOW TO' request
-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Hi All. Can someone please point me to a good walkthrough on setting up a dedicated linux dod source server. I've downloaded the source using the stream client on linux and can get it started, but I'm having some trouble getting it configured, and finding a good way to admin the server. I've got menny setup on my windows workstation, but I can't find my server in the servers list.. I've already opened the required ports (I think) on my router. Help appreciated. [hlds_linux] Re: sv_maxrate and sv_minrate.....
Yes we use ma_rates to check. Yes we have the vars set in server.cfg. Yes we run zBlock Max 2.0.2, will be updating to zBlock Max 2.0.3 in the morning Most our players are sub 50 ping. zBlock only has those vars to notify players of server side changes to those vars. All I can say it that it has been observed by our admins and myself many times, hence why we warn kick and ban on refusal. Once brought up to an acceptable level that amazingly hard to hit player can then be hit. Our Source server box is running two srcds servers and a once a day updated [5 am] psychostats set up, one server is just a locked down test bed for a yet to be announced server plugin. The other a very popular 24 player Friendly Fire CS:S server plugins: Mani's non MM:S with much of it off PTBx zBlock Specs: 66 tickrate on dual 2.8ghz xeons, 3 gigs ram, running FC-3 out of a top level data center I've yet to see a player go below our minrate/minupdaterate. You're sure it's set in the server.cfg? How are you checking their rates? ma_rates w/ Mani works like a charm. The largest complaint we have is players with a large difference between cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate. I've tried it myself...sure doesn't seem like much of an advantage. zBlock Max v.2.something and sv_mins seem to do the (pub) trick). ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] Re: sv_maxrate and sv_minrate.....
sv_minrate and sv_minupdaterate do not seem to work at all on Linux. We don't allow our admins to use any kind of client execute so we must warn kick and ban if they wont comply. These server settings seem to have no affect at all. We have found many players setting them below any acceptable level and they are very glitchy in game until they are brought back up to at least default. Once brought up to an acceptable level that amazingly hard to hit player can then be hit. I am talking about broadband players with sub 50 pings. I do not understand why with all the server/client and data transfer information the game has access to, that these things are allowed to be played with and not forced by the game after a player connects to a server. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] hlds_linux Failed to CRC
We are getting these errors even after a -verify_all many times We have been getting this a while now and still getting it on every map change after the update, default server no mods or with mods all the same FC-3 Failed to CRC sprites/white.vtf Failed to CRC vgui/white.vtf Failed to CRC particle/particle_smokegrenade.vtf Failed to CRC sprites/scope_arc.vtf Would it be safe to extract these files from my client .gcf and add them to the server? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Re: [hlds_linux] Client timed out
grep on our main servers logs and came up with 160 Client timed out in logs from 1/20 to 2/06 29 of them today something is going on, I am glad to see it's not just our servers though. so many damn bugs including VAC not loading more then half the time on server restarts Subject: [hlds_linux] Client timed out Hi all, Apologises if this has been discussed before, but hey. Recently I've noticed a lot of clients randomly disconnecting from the server with the reason "Client timed out", even though they were running along, guns blazing before getting dropped. Counter-Strike: Source, 40 players, UK server on a 100mbit port - it hasn't actually happened to me, but it seems to happen to a few people. The drop reason seems a bit vague - is it related to the Steam client or VAC, rather than the game or the server itself?
