RE: [hlds_linux] The libc6 problem(?)

2004-10-14 Thread Madman
Ohh fine... I think there is a quite easy solution for that... The only
thing Valve should do, that they make a static linked binary... I dont
think it's so difficult, and could solve everyone's problem with debian
stable.

Currently, CSS will only run with glibc 2.3

 Hi!

 I've heard things about cs:source vs libc6 2.2. I would like a final
confirmation about the fact(?) that cs:source would run only with 2.3.

Because in some forums, people say different things (some say It's the

 problem, others think differently)

 So?

Yeah, the upgrade would help me, but if I had upgraded my system, I
would have done it some time ago.. That's exactly the point. I do NOT
want to replace my _stable_ system with an _unstable_ one, just because
of cs:source. A static linked binary would solve every problem. That
would be a rational solution. And It's easy to provide, isn't it, Valve?

hi,

i can you only tell how to make an upgrade to Debian 3.1 sarge. Its your
own risk, a have made 2 upgrades without problems.

Your /etc/apt/sources.list must be edit and look like this. You can
choose also other Update-Servers. They have all the same data.
---
deb http://ftp.debian.de/debian sarge main
deb-src http://ftp.debian.de/debian sarge main
deb http://ftp.debian.de/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main
deb-src http://ftp.debian.de/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main
#deb http://ftp.debian.de/debian/ woody-proposed-updates main
#deb-src http://ftp.debian.de/debian/ woody-proposed-updates main
deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main

deb http://debian.tu-bs.de/debian/ sarge main
deb-src http://debian.tu-bs.de/debian/ sarge main
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main deb-src
http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main
--
then type in cour console

apt-get update
// This reads the new sarge-packages
apt-get dist-upgrade
//This make an upgrade to the most packages

you can use your actually Kernel. After this you can compile a new,
better an 2.6.x Kernel with an patch from Con Kolivas :-)

An 18 Slot Server uses max 30% with an XP2800+ and a 2.6.8.1

There is no negative ti update to glibc 2.3.x for my system

Thanks. It's your opinion. Let me have my own, and leave this choice to
me.
I'm still asking for that staticly linked binary, if it's possible...
(it is, only a matter of compiling) It would be nice if Valve could
provide that...
