Re: [hlds_linux] cs-1.6 -- definitive memory leak

2005-05-11 Thread Matt Lyons
They've supported it for what 6-7 years now? Can you name any other
game that has had support or even updates for that length of time?

There are a tonne of old games still being sold at your local PC shop
that have developers that have since closed down, been accuired or
moved in other directions. Buying a piece of software (particularly
old software) does not guarantee you any support from the vendor.
Especially when the support is in regard to a free online component
run on servers out of the vendors control.

With the release of the HL2 engine I can understand how valve want to
invest time in support/fixing this new engine over the old one. The
new engine is their future, it does not make business sense to invest
time in a 6 year old game engine when they have a new one just out the
door (that still needs tweaking). Its time to move on people.

Also there is no "silver bullet" wrt cheating. One system will not
catch everything, If you think CD or Program X catch all cheats your
kidding yourself.

Active admins that keep your servers in a fun, enjoyable environment
is the best way to keep your players happy and coming back to your
server. You cannot rely on a magical piece of software to keep your
players happy.
