[hlds_linux] dods not beeing getting new files by steam

2008-07-03 Thread Michael Shavit
We're trying to update our dod:s servers through steam, but we're not
getting the newest files (going through without upgrades). Running the
servers still bring this message: Your server needs to be restarted in
order to receive the latest update.

Talking here about linux servers. Please valve have a look at that. thanks.

2008-07-03 Thread Michael Shavit
Hi Danny,

did that too (the verify switch), didn't helped. Nothing more is beeing
downloaded. Tried that on various servers. Valve please have a look at
that, maybe we're contacting different steam servers which have an issue
regarding the update.

./steam -command update -game dods -dir . -verify_all -username xxx
 -password xxx

Is what we used and it worked, add -verify_all to yours and give it a
 shot. :)

Hi Alfred,

Just wanted to let you know that the last beta updates didn't fixed the
older library bug. Seems like the only workaround is to reinstall machines
with newest libraries.

A little bit disappointing the way things work.

An update to the Source Engine/Dedicated Server beta is now
available. To update, run hldsupdatetool or Steam with the command
-beta srcds0407. If this update goes well, we plan on releasing
it within a few days. The specific changes include:

 - Fixed a server performance problem with queued packets
 - Fixed a Counter-Strike: Source flashbang exploit in dxlevel 80
 - Game DLLs export ServerGameClients003 for backwards compatibility
 for plugins
 - Only allows mat_picmip to be set to 0, 1, or 2 when in
 multiplayer and sv_cheats=0
 - Cheat-protected snd_foliage_db_loss. Could be used to turn off
 ambient sounds in Counter-Strike: Source
 - Fixed a crash when mashing the ~ key on disconnect
 - Fixed a crash with certain materials being blocked from reloading
 due to sv_pure 0
 - Fixed bug with audio files of different formats overriding the
files in Steam where it would use the original audio file's sample
rate/format information after pure server rules forced it to load a
 different file

fix it.

[hlds_linux] FPS drops, lag

2007-05-06 Thread Michael Shavit
Dear all, dear Alfred,

I would like to ask you if there is a status update about the FPS drops and
Lags on CS:S Servers since the April 10 steam update.

Did any update came out (with betaupdate trigger or command) which is today
resolving this lag/fps drop? If not, is there any work going on at Valve to
solve this issue?

Please respond, would very much appreciate any info on this issue.

Thank you.

Cheers,
Michael

RE: [hlds_linux] Source Engine Dedicated server beta

Does anyone know if this beta update fixes the low FPS bug for srcds servers
running not_the_newest_libs and not Debian?

I'm saddened to see no mention at all about this - if I remember well very
big annoying thing - in the changelog. We are running here +150 srcds
gameservers with many having this low FPS bug. :-/

I'm not sure if it affected the performance in-game, but the FPS seemed
somewhat stable. It did affect the rest of the processes on the machine,
however. Doing almost anything else becomes close to impossible with one
process pegged at 99%.

Ok, I guess the issues aint the same.. my loadspike have no impact on
anything, ssh to the server is as stable as always and nothing is slowed
down. Besides making my monitoing and alerting useless/worthless the
loadspikes ever 110min isnt hurting anything.

Hey,

We tested several configurations (Debian unstable, testing, stable +
different kernels + different hw [Intel - AMD]) the last weeks and
there still seem to be these enormous fps drops in css. There is no
difference between the beta binaries and the originals. Does anyone have
a fix for this?

I already tested debian unstable because of the new glibc (2.5). But
there is still some loss of performance according to the server versions
before the last update. It runs much better with this version but still
its not as good as before the server update 1 1/2 weeks ago.

Kind regards, Tobias Rehn

I know, i just wanted to point on, that the solution is not the
net_queuesplit
cvar itself.

libc6 (2.3.6.ds1-13) is fixing the lag issue itself.
It doesnt really matter, to what the net_queuesplit is set.

We are currently using Debian Etch. With Etch there is a new libc6

Frames still dropping down to somewhere between 10 and 40 from the

I would have been surprised if a net setting had much to do with the

Sorry Alfred ... this does not seem to do any good.
Ive reverted the servers back again to build 2949, wich provides good

After going back over the archives and re-reading the lag emails I am
further convinced that setting net_queuesplits to 0 will solve
any lag
problems you may see. I want to wait for more people to try this fix
(and
for it to pan out over a couple days) but if reports are positive

will programmatically fix this problem (without the need of a manual
