RE: [hlds_linux] Re: [hlds] The Famous "Your Map de_dust differs from the server" ERROR.

2006-02-26 Thread Patrick Vestal
It's a single Pentium4 2.4GHz with 512MB RAM. It's currently running RH ES4
(because we had just gotten it at work and I wanted to give it a try). I'm
running CS:Source with the Zombie Horde mod (www.zombiehorde.com). I'm
pretty certain it's not the mod giving me grief as I know that others
running stock CS:Source servers are experiencing this issue too.

The server has been up pretty much 24x7 since I built it last August, and
I've been having this "your map differs" problem since the beginning it
seems. I remember posting on the list back then, but there were obviously
no solutions then either. I check in on the server a few times a day and
when I notice there's no one on it I know it's time to run a steam update
and re-download a .bsp. I have a fair number of regular players so it's
very rare to have the server be empty unless it's experiencing the "map
differs" problem.

Since I'm at the end of my rope here, I'm thinking about rebuilding it using
Suse 9.2 and seeing if that makes any difference.

2006-02-21 Thread Patrick Vestal
Okay. Sounds like an easy enough fix. Not sure why I didn't think of
trying that before. There's probably a downside I'm not seeing (like the
next CS:S update will fail because it cannot overwrite the files it needs
to) Anyway, for now I've set a couple of my .bsps on the server to
read-only. So far, players are still able to connect and play on those
particular maps. I will monitor things closely and see post my findings.

What if you make the file readable only?

I have been struggling with this for months now on my CS:S server (running

times a day to download new .bsps to replace the corrupted ones.

but what it is doing is changing the md5 hash number on the server not the
client and some times it is changing while we are playing it also does it on
win2000 and linux we wven set up a server and did not run it on the net and
the .bsp just the bsp files change

Is there a HalfLife 2/Counterstrike Source server for Linux? If so
where do I get it and the setup instructions?

RE: [hlds_linux] Your map [maps/mapname.bsp] differs from the server's

2005-09-03 Thread Patrick Vestal
Update. I checked the server this morning. Map was cs_assault. No one
can connect. When I attempt to connect, I get the "your map differs"
error. I can only assume based on the number of players attempting to
connect only to be immediately disconnected that they are receiving the
same error.

Isn't ANYONE else out there seeing this issue? What could possibly be
causing it? Both the server and client files are up-to-date and
verified. I'm seriously at the end of my rope with this.

Okay. Since I first posted about this problem, the server has been
running fine. Every map is behaving itself accordingly. No connection
problems, no map errors (of course). Now that I've posted this, it
should fail within the next 10 minutes or so. :)

Have you tried -verify_all when you update with steam?

RE: [hlds_linux] Your map [maps/mapname.bsp] differs from the server's

2005-09-02 Thread Patrick Vestal
Okay. Since I first posted about this problem, the server has been
running fine. Every map is behaving itself accordingly. No connection
problems, no map errors (of course). Now that I've posted this, it
should fail within the next 10 minutes or so. :)

Yes, I've run a -verify_all and it came up clean.

Have you tried -verify_all when you update with steam?

[hlds_linux] Your map [maps/mapname.bsp] differs from the server's

2005-09-01 Thread Patrick Vestal
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I have a clean install of CS:S dedicated server running on RH ES 4. The
server is set up so that human players play as CTs against a team of
bots (playing as Ts). The bots only have knives; the human players are
restricted to pistols only. The server has been running for months and
has become quite popular. I am not running any custom maps at all. I
am running the mani admin mod.

Beginning a few weeks ago, players attempting to connect (myself
included) started receiving the "your map differs" error seemingly at
random. At first it appeared that only certain maps were exhibiting
this problem. I had consistent problems with cs_italy, cs_office, and
cs_assault. But now I'm seeing the problem on almost every map. Until
just recently, I was not having problems with any of the de_ maps. Now
some of the de_ maps are experiencing the problem as well.

If I delete the problem maps from the server and allow them to be
downloaded again, the problem is fixed, but only temporarily.
Invariably with a few hours (sometimes less), I'll notice that no one
can is connect again. When I try to connect, sure enough, I get the
error as well. I've blown away and completely re-downloaded/installed
the CS:S server via steam twice now, and both times this problem has
recurred.

I can't believe that I'm the only one experiencing this issue. Because
NO one can connect, I'm reluctant to believe that this is a client-side
problem. Has anyone else on the list experienced this before, and if
so, is there a permanent fix? I'm out of ideas. Thanks for any
suggestions you may have.
