[hlds_linux] steam content servers
Hi, What defines what steam content server you connect to? As I understand it, there are some geographically diverse servers, e.g. some in UK, Europe, West Coast USA, East Coast USA, Australia, Asia, however I seem to currently be connecting to steam9.steampowered.com to try and update my servers, which is way out the sticks over in the USA somewhere, where as Surely if I was to connect to the nearest server in Europe, I'd be able to download the files faster, and hence be able to disconnect faster, and therefore allow other people to connect and download. If the connection was more reliable and you didnt get Send Failure, Connection Reset, Failed to get valid content ticket, Ran out of content tickets all the time, and stuff just trickled through it would be more efficient and would mean we wouldnt have to keep hammering the servers for updates. Is there going to be a concious effort to improve the steam distribution system as so far there doesn't seem to have been any notable difference. The end to end server-client connection seems unreliable at best. Seeing as I can't resolve or contact any steampowered.com dns servers (at the moment), I can't even get the patch from the website. I'm in the UK, which has two content servers (altho one is filtered). This is where Im connecting to..
