Starting to look more like a bug than autobalance. This post at steam
forums looks like it might it explain it well.

I agree, it is extremely annoying when trying to play with friends to L4D.
The servers must be autobalance off by default.

What if you want to run a match server, where you want the same team to be
constant through out the level changes.

I agree with most of what you said, but I don't know anyone who would
want to locked to the survivor team on a vs server... You suffer
through playing survivor against 4 human bosses just so you can get your
chance to turn the tables on them. :)

I absolutely agree on that!!

We need an update, Valve!

I agree, this is absolutely horrible. Friend and I have been trying to play
Versus on the same team for about a week now (schedules not working out),
and we finally did on Saturday, and after the first map I was switched to
the other team, losing my turn as Infected altogether and now playing with
strangers I don't know. People were getting switched after almost every
map, it sucked and completely ruined our game. I didn't play again over the
weekend...specifically because of this problem.

It's bad enough that after each round I have to play as Survivor when I just
want to play as Infected, let alone losing my Infected turns several times
through a round and having to play as a Survivor twice on the same map, and
3, sometimes 4 maps in a row because of this auto balance.

Valve, please give us...

- Versus Campaign mode that doesn't alternate teams at all, so we can choose
whether to be Infected or Survivor from beginning to end.
- Turn off auto-balance.
- Add server selection in the Lobby so we can select a specific server to
join to.
- Steam group servers...Ping and player info would be useful instead of just
a name on the Main Menu. Along with being able to filter this by Ping.

IMO, These are the primary things holding back L4D.
